Ashland 21 Raceland 14
#31
there have been years when we played well against or even beat Ashland when the tomcats were "Down" and we were on an upswing. But what I saw last night, was two teams that are both going to be a very tough out for anyone on their schedule not named Johnson Central(hope im wrong there, pulling for the Kittens in that one). That was a great HS football game, packed house as always, great atmosphere.

I think we are starting to turn the corner a little as a program. We never looked outmatched or put classed last night.

Hats off to the rams the kids played there hearts out and left it on the field and hats off to the coaching staff as well with a great game plan coming in

We need to start looking for a replacement for Jude cause we can’t let lacks run the ball as much as he did last night. He was so tired that he really wasn’t a opinion at the end of the game! Dalton isn’t a running back and it shows when he tries to run the ball! I know everybody is beening hush hush but will Jude even play this year?We can’t sit around and wait for him to return we need to find another back or start throwing more because lacks can’t carry the ball 25 plus times a game and be effective at the end of the game for us or even be healthy at the end of the year!

The game was what it was...we were the better team tonight....expect for three plays! Ashland has three or four kids that stood out to me.But as for a whole the Rams were better! I’m always on salmons for something. I thought he coached a good game except for stalling out on the final drive before half. That set the tone for the second half! Hell 14-0 half and getting the ball to start the half....no brainer to me be aggressive ! We played good and I’m super excited about the rest of the season!! GO RAMS

From the way Raceland had performed all night in the red zone there's no reason to believe they would have scored from the ten yd line. They failed to punch it in from the ten inch line. Ashland played bend but don't break def all night.

I agree. Hunter left everything he had on the field last night, but we have to find another back to spell him. Salmons taking 20 pass attepts with a Soph QB in only his second start tells me he has confidence in the young man. I think we will open it up more as the season progresses. Im w u though RD, while obviously I wanted the win, but by Halftime I knew we were further ahead than I ever expected us to be after week 1.

Something else to keep in mind is Dalton didnt play alot of RB last year outside of the wildcat. I think he will prigress as the season goes on.

The rams have a jr that will start getting more and more carries as the season goes

Congratulations to the Tomcats, but my praise goes to the Rams. 1A School playing the 4A School like this is great( and I didn’t see the game but by these posters on here said they could have won and have read many posts by these guys and they tell it like it is) they must have played a game. I already knew that these Rams would be a team to contend with this year never did doubt they could win this game or be close in the end. Hope the young man that’s out gets back on the field don’t know his injury but he is a very good athlete. So good luck to the Rams and the Cats the rest of the year and hope you guys win them all except 1 if it gets to that game and as always GO PANTHERS!!!

It's tough for a class A school to overcome the loss of a player like Judd Adkins if that's true that he won't be playing this season. However, echoing what Scotty said, Raceland appears to be a real "program" now rather than a little school that has some good teams now and then. I hope that Adkins can play this year, but the Rams can overcome the loss if need be. It looks like they are going to build on the momentum of their state title game appearance. This gets more athletes within their school to come out for football and gets a few transfers in each year...and that's not a criticism...that's just reality. Heck, if I had a son that was into football in the NEKY area, I would send him to Raceland (or Ashland). For that matter, some of the best players on the field for each team last night transferred into the schools and weren't from there originally.

What we saw last night was the 2 best football programs in our area going toe to toe. Like Scotty, I underestimated the Rams coming into this game. After seeing it, though, I agree that the vibe around Raceland football is different. Even Ram-a-Devil has been a little more calm than usual after the Rams were on the end of a few questionable calls. This is a program that has gone from the "little engine that could" wanting respect to a respected program that has the real potential to be a perennial contender. Consider me a fan of the Rams.

As for Ashland, the loss of Junior Jones hurt them badly on their defensive line last night. They really need to get him and Isaac Caines back before their key district games against Greenup and Johnson Central in October.

Another thing that possibly hurt the Tomcats was the way they cruised by Harlan County last week. Raceland reminded them really quick what physical football is like. Ashland played the 2nd half with more emotion, but they looked like they were expecting the Rams to roll over because of the A on their helmets in the 1st half.

Despite the loss Raceland has to feel so much more confident about their team after the way they fought all of last night. Always respected the the Rams program. Hoping you guys have another successful season.

Like I said last night on the updates thread. This is by far the best Raceland team they have had since I’ve been watching football. Ashland did enough to get the W but can’t expect to just show up. Ashland lost the turnover battle but still found a way and only showed up for one half of football. Ashland sleep walked through the 1st half. Raceland should have a great season and make it back to where they want to be. Good Luck Rams

Judd will be back for the Greenup Game.

The running back slipped and fell when we were on the 1yd line. Nobody touched him

Judd will be back , don’t know how that rumor started that he wasn’t playing this year but it’s not true . I think there’s a chance he plays this week if not it will be next
#48
Don’t forget Judd plays defense too , along with Cox who will become eligible week 5 I think both will be playing At corner and safety
#49
Safety??? What safety ?? You mean that linebacker we put 12 yards off the line of scrimmage!! We are Raceland...we need no safety!!

@RAM-A-DEVIL, Ashland had 49 rushing yards on 21 carries. Impressive defensive effort against a very fast Ashland team. Likewise, Raceland didn’t look too slow to me.

Raceland has speed and dept , when they get healthy look out

I felt hunter lacks has a really good game , gave all he had it’s tough to ask a kid to run the ball that much especially this early in the season
#53
Rams let one get away. Kittens were lucky to survive.
