OLDBALLCOACH Wrote:Having said that massey was by far the difference tonight.....he played as well as i have seen him play this year. He was a force on both ends of the floor. Shelton got hot and started draining some 3's.......the dunk andrew griffith had in the first qtr on top of a corbin player was just awesome. W'burg was down all night and fought through some hard spots. This is a team that just fights till the very end and finds ways to win even when it looks like there is no chance to pull one out. With the win that really puts w'burg in drivers seat now to be #1 seed in district which means another rematch with corbin looks like. Its hard to beat a team 3 times let alone 4 times in a year. Still have 2 with south and home against whitley. We would have to lose all 3 district games left in order to lose #1 seed. It's possible......south is playing pretty well right now and whitley will always be a tough game just because of bragging rights. It's almost tournament time......
OLDBALLCOACH Wrote:Read the post again......thats exacy what i said. I said w'burg is in drivers seat for being no1 seed. Didn't say they had it wrapped up......still have 2 games with south and i said south is playing well. I don't see w'burg losing 2 out of the next 3 but it is possible.
I reread it again. And it still says that Williamsburg would have to lose all three to lose the one seed. Not so. If they are swept by South it doesn't matter if they beat Whitley or not, South will get the one seed. South would be 4-2, the best Williamsburg could be would be 4-2, and South would own the head-to-head tiebreaker. And I think that is very possible. And if Corbin and Williamsburg both beat Whitley, Corbin and Whitley will both wind up 2-4, and 1-1 against each other. Not sure what that tiebreaker would be. It all just means that it is still really up in the air as to how the district pairings will shake out.

Alright i see what you are saying.......possible we can lose 2 to south but i feel very unlikely. Not sure what all the tie breakers involved are. Like the fact that 2 of 3 district games are at home. The corbin/whitley game can actually impact this more than i originally thought. Corbin win with w'burg win and then the seeds are pretty much done.

I think Wburg gets the one seed after splitting with South.
South gets the two seed.
Whitley and Corbin tied for third place at 2-4 in the district and 1-1 in the head to head.
In the case of a tie breaker the winner of the last game played between the two would finish with the higher position. So, in order to finish like this, Corbin would have to beat Whitley in there second game to force a tie.
So, I could see....
1. Williamsburg-5-1
2. South Laurel- 3-3
3. Corbin 2-4
4. Whitley 2-4
However, Whitley is in a good position here IMO. If they can beat Corbin and finish 3-3, they would get the two seed because they beat South in there second game played.
Also, that would put Corbin at 1-5 and playing Wburg who would be 5-1.
This is all assuming Wburg and South split games and Corbin and Wburg beats Whitley to finish out the district.

Jackets seem to be pretty tough this year

Just curious, when was the last time Corbin did not make it to the region? It looks a lot like this could be one of those years. One and done

If you have an offensive guy that is out of control and a defender that is not set, you will sometimes see the call resulting in a blocking/charge. Not sure how it played out at this game, and may very well have been a terrible call.
This is one of the beggist misconceptions in high school basketball. A defender does not have to be set to draw a charge. The defender simply has to establish defensive position and the offensive player has to initiate the contact. The defender can indeed be moving as long as he/she has established position.

If I'm not mistaken it was 2002 when a good Knox Central team beat them at Whitley in the district.
before that I think you'd have to go mid 90s maybe. Since the. District the realignment with South It's been corbin and south every year except one year when Whitley beat South I think in 08 or 09. I don't think Wburg has been to region since 98

I think Barbourville beat Corbin in semi's when Vance was a senior. That may have been 04. I believe it was at Williamsburg. Dinky working his magic.

A Williamsburg fan is the only one complaining about the refs, and the last time I checked, they won. Williamsburg scored 16 points on FT's in the 4th quarter, so it sure does not appear that got homered too badly.:please:

This is correct. Barbourville had a good team and a good game plan. The Tigers dared Corbin to jack it up from behind the 3 pt line, a couple of players obliged, and they shot themselves right out of the tournament.

I may be wrong, but I thought Corbin went to Sweet 16 in 2004.

You're right, it was the 04-05 School year they went to State, but it's considered 2005 Season. My apologies.

You knew more about it than I did. Vance was a great player.

Yea, that's what I meant.
However, before last year, Wburg had not bee to the region since 98 either.

Yea, your right. I thought Vance was older than that for some reason. I could have swore he was playing when I was in high school but he might have just been a freshman or something.
That year and the one I mentioned are the only two years Corbin did not make region that I remember since at least the early 90's if then.
