Preason Mt. Top Ten

RIUTG is already stirring the pot!!

I will admit he can be as obnoxious as they come, especially in the girl's bball forum, BUT, give the devil his due. Gut had to eat some crow with ME last year, and I must admit he did it in a classy way!!

I mean, I ate so much crow last season, I started to like the taste!!!

So, allow me to stir the pot a little more.....how great would it be to have 4 mountain teams playing for state??? I definately think that's possible. If it happens, we WILL have a ho-down at the state level!!

One thing is for sure, Harlan, Belfry, and JC all play each other, so most peoples top 3 will get sorted out really quick. I know belfry has some questions about their line, but belfry is belfry they will be ready, Harlan has added a tremendous amount of speed to go with their usual size and power, Dont know alot about JC but they're usually pretty good..Cant wait for the season to start...

Spot on.

Cardinals ride Wrote:Because their skilled positions are very good. Much better than Belfry's, in my opinion. Especially since they were able to add Bryce Workman to the fold. Both JC and Belfry have some questions up front heading into the season. Just feel JC has a stronger set of skilled players.

Yikes... you stubbed your toe on that one brother, IMHO.

Had you went with the fact Belfry has a defense that is basically requiring the entire Front 7 to be rebuilt after losing three LB's who have a combined 11 years of starting experience then I could buy it...but you chose skill positions?!?!?!?

Belfry may very well have the best backfield in the ENTIRE state of Kentucky returning 100% in tact. I try to check my bias at the door on here..so for me to even make such a broad statement should say something.

They return one of the better QB's in EKY in Warren, they return a 1000 yard rusher in Carr who is set for a breakout season, they return the FB Hatfield who was literally unstoppable once he stepped into the lineup (including a dominating performance against JC where he basically single handily sealed the game), they return Justin Johnson who was on pace to a record breaking season before injury (he averaged a whopping 14.3 yards per carry), and as an added bonus they also return Keaton Taylor who was dynamic at three different skill positions last season.

Had Jonson and Hatfield each started ten games Belfry would have easily had (3) 1000 yard rushers returning.

No offense to Workman, who you singled out and is a fine player, but I am not sure had he transferred to Belfry he would even crack the starting lineup.. if he did it would almost have to be at WR... and personally I think Taylor is the more natural WR if we were comparing.

With all that said, if you look at my rankings I actually agree that I think JC is more than worthy of the nod ahead of Belfry as defensively I think they have less question marks... but skill players? Nah...cant buy that one.

This is the best chance for that to happen in a looooooooong time.

I think 3A and 1A have very good shots based solely on the competition of that side of the bracket.. I think Somerset has a fine opportunity in 2A as NewCath may take a step back... and IMHO Harlan County is the best team of the lot entering the season (though their path may be the toughest aside from Johnson Central's).

The Belcher kid from JC is going to be a great player.

^^
He ain't gonna be; he IS!!! What was that kid from Whitley?? Harris/Mills...something like that. That kid done a lot more damage to us last year than The Boss (not taking anything away from that mountain of a kid). He's young, too.

I think it will be a wonderful football season this year, and I can hardly wait!!!

Not a Somerset fan. Actually a Pikeville fan. Just seeing Somerset a little stronger than Williamsburg is all. Btw,if my teams out of it, I too pull for all mtn. teams. Good luck to your team this season. :Cheerlead

As for starting backfields HC has 7 or 8 backs that could rush for a 1000 yards just have to see which one will settle in, Long, Wilson, Whitehead, Massey, Gist, Daniels, Chitwood and Bailey. Don't know if we will have a 2000 yard rusher as we have the past couple years but we could easily have 3 or 4 1000 yard rushers and maybe a first time 1000 or more passer.

Hard to believe a Belfry guy disagreeing that they are not the best team ever!!

Anyway, JC still has a very good set of skilled players. Not only on the offensive side of the ball but on defense as well. Remember, there are 2 sides in football and they each have skilled positions.

Everyone has a opinion, don't really care if you disagree with mine. I would take JC's skilled guys over those at Belfry. I don't think there is any universe where people outside of Belfry wild say Belfry has the best backfield in the state. Come on, man!!

Best I remember JC also returns every starter in there offensive backfield and they put up a lot of points last year. Then, they added Workman.

I really don't care if Workman wouldn't start at Belfry. Big whoop!! My point was he helps what is already of very good collection of skilled guys in JC.

Anyway, these are what we call opinions. I have some you disagree with. You certainly have some I disagree with. Oh we'll.

Belfry also put up alot of points and could of put up more, but remember Haywood takes his starters out when they get up big,Matney is know to leave his in...
Count this Belfry fan as NOT thinking the Pirate backfield is the best in the state.

They should be very good and balanced though.

HDE Wrote:Who did Middlesboro beat to get in this conversation?

They didn't, but they return almost everyone and were very talented and young last year. Their junior class is loaded... As a Somerset fan I know how good they COULD be.

The real question is....who is "Middlesbrough"? Come on dude, if you can root for them you can spell it right.
Whether or not who's the best if your knock on Belfry is skill players then you're tucked away somewhere in Kentucky drinking far too much Bourbon. 4300 of last years 4800 rushing yards return.

To put that in comparison, 2012's team brought back less than half of the rushing yards after losing Willis and Dixon. Only one player carried the ball ALL YEAR for Belfry last year and graduated. That's a hell of a start, just hoping the rest falls into place. Harlan Co has a darn good returning backfield too.
