Martin County/Pikeville/Letcher Central Scrimmage

Well Raceland is one of those games and Pikeville may do to them what Sayre did to them

All I ask is RPI falls where the best 2 teams end up at Kroger. Sayre wouldn't have come to Raceland or Pikeville and won last year. And Pikeville was down even.

You don’t believe the best two teams played for it last season?
Seeing how Pikeville didn’t play particularly well and went into Raceland and won with some important players hurt, I don’t think best two teams played for it last year in the end but Pikeville had their chance to beat Sayre in playoffs and didn’t get it done. Lots of reasons for that but that’s a long post. Pikeville had the most talent last season. Sayre was really good and deserved to win. Obviously had great talent also and their staff did a remarkable job. They outcoached and their players outworked everyone.

Hearing Pikeville had players sitting, multiple linemen and a skill starter who is injured but will be back. No scores given up, neither team got real close either, and according to team’s X account, very few yards surrendered. They should beat those teams fairly soundly and it sounds like they did.

Pikeville’s defense is always ahead of the offense early on but if this team stays healthy (because they are a little thin in numbers) they have a lot of speed, and multiple guys who can hurt you. They don’t have a Brenden Anthony but they have a couple of stars who will shine this year and teams will have to pick their poison. They are going to cause a few gray hairs in opposing d-coordinator heads.

Pikeville will contend for another championship if they go into playoffs healthy. Raceland, Campbellsville, KCD, Hazard all threats. Sayre is the wild card. Lost a ton but if they got some kids in with some good players returning, they can end somebody’s season. Just don’t think they’ll be able to repeat unless they brought in a bunch. Raceland has the most complete team on paper. Hazard gets the 3 best teams in 1A in my opinion on their home field. They have a sneaky good and challenging schedule and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them beat any one of those 3 teams. They have second toughest schedule in 1A. Pikeville plays a gauntlet. Toughest schedule in 1A. Sayre plays a weaker schedule again but didn’t seem to hurt them last year. Some important/interesting 1A games:

Raceland at Ashland 8/22
Pikeville at CAL 8/22
Bell County at Campbellsville 8/22
KCD at Sayre 8/22
Raceland at Pikeville 9/5
Breathitt Co at Hazard 9/12
Pikeville at JC 9/12
Pikeville at Belfry 9/19
Campbellsville at Hazard 9/19
Raceland at Hazard 10/3
Raceland at Paris 10/17
Pikeville at Hazard 10/24
KCD at Campbellsville 10/24
Hazard at Somerset 10/31

I believe by seasons end last year Raceland and Sayre were the two best teams. Yes Pikeville did beat Raceland early in the season but Raceland was a different team playoff time. Which Pikeville was as well. But one can’t argue the path Sayre went to win it. Paris, Pikeville, Campbellsville, then Raceland. Now that my friend is a gauntlet. We can have the what ifs and stuff but most teams by November aren’t healthy.

Who sit out last night for Pikeville?  Did any of the teams suffer any injuries during this scrimmage.

You see it like I do. There are 5 teams who could win Class 1A. They may be a dark horse but luck will need to be on there side. But 1 of the 3 will be eliminated on the east side of the state. Campbellsville and KCD can most likely avoid each other 3rd round, but there is a chance they could play each other 3rd round but I don’t see it.
Now bac no they wasn’t it was the same old running team and if you can get a few stops you can beat them

Now I can’t disagree that Racelands style can get them beat because it most definitely can. But there style limits those possessions for the other team especially if they can eat clock. But last year the Sammons kid is who took his play up another level defensively to put raceland over the top.

That’s an impressive number. How many games did Pikeville play in that year?

Lost in semis to Beechwood in the most brutal loss in Pikeville history. Up 19-10 at Beechwood late in 4th and Bwood QB kept throwing it straight up in the air over the light poles and it kept magically coming down right to a Bwood player. Bwood then won the championship by 30.

I remember jp. I was there and a big letdown for sure. We saw something similar to that in the 2018 championship game against Beechwood. Footballs flying everywhere.
