Sperry played the best in region tourney in years in the 14th willed us to win it. Hard fought game but we earned it. Credit to hazard on a great season. But the title stays in the north fork this time.

I guess it's time for Hazard to hit the transfer portal, and drum up some NIL money. Breathitt will lose the most next year. and I'll speak on behalf of the other schools in the 14th, we will be happy to see Sperry graduate. He had a tremendous career. He lost 14th region POY because of coaches not liking the kid and Big Al collecting votes for him, because his game can't be ignored. Best player in the 14th.

Hazard would’ve finished 6th in the 13th. Where is Bac?
Hazard beats anybody in the 13th… funny how the 13th region officials got to call this game. Pure out unethical for that teams region officials to call a game that the winner faces there region team. I won’t make excuses because if Hazard hits free throws down the stretch they probably win. But 6 seconds was added to the clock during a clock malfunction that happen twice late in the 2nd quarter. These happened when Hazard had a 4 point lead then extended to 6. If those 6 seconds aren’t added then Breathitt doesn’t have the chance for that should from Honeycutt to end the half. Hazard had Breathitt on the ropes and that delay stunned the Hazard momentum and give Sperry much needed breather each time as he was sucking wind.
But credit Breathitt County they made shots, they got key loose balls, won the 50/50 balls. Hazard got no hands up on most shots.
You can feel free to go back watch the game. Hazards Evin Eversole worked hard all night and Not one foul was called when there should have been. The only foul that was called was late and it was clean (my opinion). After letting all the other ones go.
Hazard was/is/will be frauds. They would be a first round exit at the 13th region tournament and the next 3 best teams in the 14th would not have sniffed the 13th region tournament. It’s like comparing the SEC and the ACC.
Congrats on breathitt, I thought they had them beat late in the regular season and found a way to lose. I hope the best for them on their bus ride to rupp and their bus ride back home later that night.
Hazards only loss in the 14th came tonight. So how do u know if any of the officials tonight who called the Hazard/Breathitt game have any ties to any of the two teams from the 13th region teams who played tonight? Because the likely hood is very possible those officials have ties to those schools. But I can tell you this, I bet the 13th is happier to see Breathitt County than Hazard and I’d put all the money in my wallet on that.
I can’t disagree that the 14th was rather weeks this year, but the two best teams played tonight for once in the championship instead of the semis. Breathitts only losses in region was all to Hazard.

Tell me why the coaches who voted for Evin Eversole as player of the year should be ashamed? They voted for the best player on the best team just as anyone would do and that’s how things sometimes work out. One player gets a nice accolade while another deserving wins something the other player didn’t. It’s a shame that people just couldn’t enjoy watching these players. Are you saying the coaches voted for Eversole because he’s the best player in the region or because he was the best player on the best team in the region ?
I’m confident , if every coach in the region told the truth when asked. Who is the best player in the region ? Austin Sperry would have received 100% of the votes. That’s why I say they should be ashamed.

Now if the award was voted on after region then there would be no doubt that Sperry would have won it. But voting was before and I’m sure most coaches voted on Evins performances. Evin at this time was also 4-0 against Sperry so that also could have played into it. That’s my opinion on the matter.

If Austin Sperry had not played last year’s regional tournament with a sprained ankle that seriously limited his ability to fully utilize his athleticism there is a possibility his team could have won three straight regions. I believe they lost by 7 in the 2024 championship game with Sperry playing at about 60-70% of his ability.

I wish the 13th region luck not to get Sperryed!!!!
So Harlan County or Corbin aye? So I guess there would be no chance someone might be a little ticked off or sore at Hazard for beating Harlan County in the earlier part of the season? Because I can tell you as an human being we hold grudges.
But to the clock issue, they refs may not work the clock but they are responsible for getting it right. The first clock issue 254/252. The next one is at 225/224 when Caudill hit a jump shot to put Hazard up 6. The clock should have kept running after that and atleast 10 seconds went off after before any official need noticed the clock. So yes those mistakes are on the officials.
But end the end Hazard still had a chance to win it with that half court shot. They just didn’t get it done like they did the 4 other times before and when it mattered. Breathitt County won the game fair and square and when it mattered the most. But those mistakes by supposedly by the best region officials from the 13th are just unacceptable.

No reason to hold a grudge against u or anyone that I disagree with on here or anywhere. You have ur opinion and I have mine. In any of my post where did I say the reason Hazard lost the game was the refs fault? No where did I say that. But if these refs who called the 14th region tournament are the best then I feel sorry for the 13th on games officiated in that region. I also blamed nothing. I gave a true honest opinion on how people can be. Just like u are saying they was a ghost call in the Wymt tournament. I need no help because I have no delusions. But if me and you are at the same place for a game feel free to get up with me and we can talk about the game we’re watching and see if we have the same aspect or perspective no matter what sport it is. I make quite a few football games in person, but my last basketball game was the Hazard/Clay Co game last year where Clay won the game. No hazard isn’t a top 5 team in the state but they are up there in the top 15 possibly. But not sure why many people get tore up on that KSR top 25 for the state.
Those are some nice stats. If u got time feel free to do the same for Breathitt Co, and Perry Central. You can also do it for your team in the 13th and a couple of other teams in the 13th so seem as welll.
Coaches picked Sperry as the No. 1 player in the 14th the last two years in the Cats Pause, and I do the story and the poll. I often defended him when people on here criticized for him some insane things, including being too old or staying back. Of course, that is very common everywhere and has been for years.
After seeing both Eversole and Sperry play this year against Harlan County, I could see people giving the edge to Eversole. He certainly isn't as athletic as Sperry, but he was one of the most unstoppable high school players I saw the past few years. I could see the vote going either way in February, especially before Sperry had a big regional tourney and leading his team to an upset and a championship.

Vote was taken before the tournament. You could have made a good case for Winston even before the tournament though.
Justice won several regional titles at Knott. I would think he's the best player in the region the past 20-30 years.

It is a shame we can't discuss two great players without trying to knock one down. Sperry and Eversole were the best two players in the 14th and it wasn't close. Both had great seasons and careers (POY is not a career achievement award). Both made great cases with the way they played. If it was held after tournament Sperry probably gets it. Regular season it is hard not to say Eversole deserved it because he was as dominant at his position and important for his team as Sperry was for Breathitt. Both should be celebrated without trying to knock one down.

If not for the All-A and 14th region tournament, the Hazard bulldogs would’ve played 4 games without 14th region officials and only 1 in the state of kentucky. As the old saying goes "it's hard to beat a good team three times", in this case it was hard to beat a good team five times! Honeycutt did a fantastic job on drawing up the blueprint to beat the Bulldogs and the Bobcats executed it to perfection. Sperry carried the team, but I believe the difference maker was how Terry took Eversole out of his game. Terry is the only kid in the region who can match Eversole's strength and he did an excellent job not allowing him to get to his spot in the low post. You're not going to stop Eversole, but making it hard on him put the pressure on others to step up, and in the end it didn't happen. Breathitt is playing their best basketball at the right time, and although Hazard was the better team all year, they wasn't the better team when it counted.
I can see the argument regarding Eversole being the 14th region player of the year. He was the best player on the best team who hadn't lost a game in the state of Kentucky all year. Sperry on the other hand is the most talented player and he proved that in the regional tournament. With an upcoming match up with North Laurel in the Sweet Sixteen, it will be interesting on how both teams match up. North Laurel will be the favorite on paper, but Breathitt is playing with a lot of confidence and at this time of the year, anything can happen. Congrats Bobcats!

Not that it really makes that big of a difference, but I'll throw out that Hazard didn't have a 14th Region crew for the WYMT tournament as well.
They invite teams from the 13th, 14th and 15th along with officials from each region. A crew can't officiate a game featuring a team from the region they represent.
They also have a crew from Central Kentucky from time-to-time.

That is called relying on the whistle.
Bell County 4-1 (region tournament loss)26-7
South Laurel 8-6 - 25-9
North 8-5 - 22-10
HC 9-7 - 25-9
Breathitt- 5-3 - 24-8 (4 losses to hazard)
Pikeville (another region whistle) 2-5 16-9
Lawrence 11-3 - 23-10
*disclaimer I might be one off on some*
I mention pikeville because one of the two wins without 15th region refs was some homeschool in louisville. No instate wins outside a 15th region floor. Look at the difference between them and the 15th region champs.
If not for the All-A and 14th region tournament, the Hazard bulldogs would’ve played 4 games without 14th region officials and only 1 in the state of kentucky. That is not the scheduling that wins regions late in the year. Trust me I know. As a Bell County fan we would have been much more prepared if we had scheduled more.
If you're looking for big road wins by 15th region teams outside the 15th good luck. Lawrence didn't have any either.

As I said on a different thread, Al will not come out of the 14th to play good teams and it showed. Its one thing to run physically roughshod with the refs at your back but when you haven't played a competitive schedule away from home with outside officials it shows. Back in the summer at the Collins event when Hazard lost their first 3 games and then Al took his ball and went home(forfeits) I knew it would be another Holland shitshow. Congrats to Breathitt.
