Now they are reporting Trey Stapleton has taken the coaching position for baseball.

How many kids are out for practice right now?

That's a young man taking a high school coaching job.

Hopefully it works out for them!

Any truth to Lemaster leaving Ashland to be Stapleton's assistants (mentor)

Heard the middle school principals son has left Blackcat country for Tiger land. Is this rumor true. How bad is it if you are employed by Floyd County and send your kids to Johnson County.

I believe the new High school principals kids go to Paintsville. Also a site base member (ex site base now) has supposedly sent their kid to Paintsville right after they were elected. That might also be the same kid your talking about. Not really sure what the parents want in Pburg. Many of the people transferring their kids are the ones most involved in the school and sports. They are apart of the administration, teachers, and decision makers.

It appears even with Webb and Butcher gone problems still exist if kids are still leaving. Wonder what/who that problem could be. :eyeroll:

Webb is gone. Butcher is gone. New basketball coach. And I hear John is retiring after this year (probably just a typical pburg rumor though). What else do they want? I really think a lot of it (not all) is the fact that it is easier to transfer to a good team then it is to make your team better.

Just my two cents here, but paintsville was in about as bad of shape as a program could be in about 5 years ago. That program got turned around in literally a year or two's time (not saying they got where they are that fast, just that the upswing began somewhat rapidly). You have to have good talent to win, but coaching staff is the foundation. Chirico is the reason Paintsville got turned around. Not sure on the coaching staff at Pburg, but that is where success begins and ends. Prestonsburg has VERY historically rich program, I would imagine someone will come along at some point and take things by the horns.

Trust me these kids didn't want to transfer. I know several of the families involved. The majority of the people in the community also wanted James and John gone. The new principal even stated on 2 occasions that her first order of business was to remove the Derossetts. Her mind changed really quick for some reason. Wonder what may have happened there.
My question is for what other reason would you transfer knowing that you are going to be surrounded by a lot of talent in all 3 sports and a lot of playing time available? They didn't need to leave to be on a good team or teams. Everything was set up for Prestonsburg to make a run in all 3 sports. Also what person in their right mind would hire a basketball coach who just a couple months earlier was forced to resign from the girls position. Makes a lot of sense to me.

I know all the family's involved and understand there were some hesitations to transfer. But it really is the "trendy" thing to do right now there. You hear them talking about it in the gym and at the local resturaunts. They have been talking each other into it.

I really don't know why they hired any of the coaches they did. But it was change. Not sure who all applied either.

Now I'm not sure about about a run in all three sports. Baseball is going to have a tough road this year. And bluntly put basketball has never been very good with the exception of a couple years. Even the middle school basketball team coming up will have to compete against a stacked region. They did look good but they weren't competing against the Wellman, James, or May kid in middle school. They will have to in high school. (Of course LC lost Wellman).

But if those kids would of stayed they would of been very tough in football even with John as the coach. In a weak 2a class we could of been talking about a state championship run in a couple years. But not now.

There isn't a middle school basketball team coming up. 10 of the 12 kids on the team have moved on to other school districts. In my opinion this was the most well rounded group of athletes to come thru Prestonsburg in a long time.

Heard former Lincoln Co standout Willie McBraden who is working out in Wayland may get the football job next year.
#47
Is this the same Willie that rushed for over 2,000 yards. Heard James would be his D coordinator and special teams
#48
So is James still the defensive coordinator? I always liked him.

Be more specific when you say Eagles.

Johnson Central is scheduled for a scrimmage @ Cabell Midland next Saturday.
