I'd rather not watch Perry kids play Perry kids wearing a different color is the main reason. I truly do hope they never play again in football at any level.

Why play at Perry where you are gonna lose and the administration doesn't care about football when you can play at Hazard where everybody cares and have a chance at winning a State Championship?

Well if kids are continuously leaving your school, maybe its a problem at your school. Stop blaming other schools and look at your problem. And let me be the first to tell you that your football problem is your admin's fault.
Because those kids that are leaving Perry because of football seem to really enjoy football at Hazard.

I Agree with the bolded 100%. But, Hazard has no shot at winning 1A this year, even with Mayfield gone.

See the bolded part of KENTUCKY10's post for my thoughts on your bolded, I know what the problem is. In my own personal opinion I just want the series to stay dead. Hazard always wants to play when they think they can win, that's why the series was dead between 2009-2013 and the talk of resuming has come around now that Perry is in a down stretch. Perry has nothing to gain from playing Hazard, if we win it's "well a 5A school should beat a 1A school" and if we lose "HAHAHA a 5A school lost to a 1A school". So i'd rather it just stay dead.

That's what kills me about it.
Everyone always looked forward to that game and it was a BIG deal to the kids that played in it - but for Perry Central it was never a big deal. Hazard has everything to gain by playing a 5A school but it's not a two-way street.

I don't think Hazards football team was afraid to play Perry from 2009-2013 those would have been great games. Hazard may not have a shot this year but I guarantee in a year or two they will be in the mix. No chance Perry ever will be. You guys are right though Perry gains nothing from playing Hazard.
10-17-2015, 05:25 PM
Come to think of it what does Hazard gain by beating Perry? Perry is not a football school and Hazard should beat them every year.

Yes it is a two way street. The year Hazard beat Perry on a Hail-Mary pass at the end. Perry's fans where getting ready to rush the field right before the pass. Dont say it was never a big deal to Perry because it was.
Hazard don't look at the 5A and think that Perry should beat them. Hazard plays Letcher Central every year and Hazard has beaten Letcher the last 4 times. So if Perry and Hazard did play and Perry somehow won the game it would be a BIG win for Perry, because Hazard is a very respected football program and Perry has took 10 steps backwards since Haddix left.

Granny Bear Wrote:I LOVED playing Lee High!! Their band is award winning, and playing over there was a lot like going through a time warp for me. It reminded me of what football used to be, in a way. Their concession stand was chocked full of homemade goodies, and the entire field was decorated with crepe paper. It was my favorite place to visit!!
We only play them in basketball, I believe.
I have cousins in Lee County, too

2008? Yea, the students might have rushed the field, what do you expect in a rivalry game that played out the way that game did. The 1A runner-up beat a 5-6 5A team on a hail mary was the net result of that game. Frankly, to the bolded, no it wouldn't. Bragging rights for one year over a 1A school, maybe a larger than usual slice of money on the gate, but who cares. Beating Harlan County for the first time in school history, or winning the district would be "big" wins. We beat Hazard when I was there, it was a nice little distraction with the black gold bowl and all that, but district play starting the week after was the important goal. You'd like to think it's more of a big deal, but it's not.

Madison Southern and Berea Community are literally 1/2 mile from each other but DO NOT play in football. They play all other sports but football does not. It would serve no purpose. I think they have played twice and both times Southern won by 60+ points.

I always respect the small school programs that manage to keep a team going year in and year out. No point in them playing a school five or six times their size just due to proximity.
Would love to see Berea bounce back, though. They have had some decent teams from time to time over the years.

Highlands:
NCC, used to play every year pre 1999
Dayton, used to be the first game of the season for a loooong time in the olden days.
Newport, used to be big rival before Cov Cath was... I don't think the crumb pickers and cake eaters have played in over 40 years

actually right now If Perry and Hazard played this year and Perry won it would be a GREAT win for Perry because it would be a bad program beating a good program. But why would Hazard want to play Perry right now anyways because Perry is awful and Hazard has enough bad teams on the schedule. Much rather play Pikeville, Letcher, Prestonsburg, and Somerset than Perry. Lets be honest Hazard would probably kill Perry right now.
Its funny that your trying to down play beatin Hazard when right now Perry would be HAPPY to just beat anyone.

Maybe so, with half of Perry's players, so saying Perry would get beat by the Hazard-Perry all-stars is a pretty moot point. The awful teams on your schedule is what Hazard calls their district, and outside of Pikeville, every team in that district is horrible. And like i've said dozens and dozens of times, Perry has NOTHING to gain playing Hazard, it's either an expected win or an embarrassment. Probably the same reason Whitley doesn't play Williamsburg, Harlan County doesn't play Harlan, Letcher Central doesn't play Jenkins, etc. I'm not downplaying beating Hazard, I would just rather the game never be played at all.

The all out brawl happened in 1992, this was my freshman year at Somerset. Still today it is the craziest event that I've ever witnessed on a football field. The school even replayed it on "Jumper TV" in homerooms the following week. The KHSAA intervened and the teams didn't play each other again until the early 2000's.

Hazard - 2 miles away, not played since 2008, hopefully it stays that way.
Leslie County - ~18 miles away, last played in 2010, would like to see this one restarted, LC has a good program right now.
Knott Central - ~22 miles away, last played in 2010, sure. Put them back on the schedule too.
Clay County - 40 miles away, last played in 2014, i'd like to see this series restarted as well.
Was going to ask question but never mind read other posts..................GO DAWGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mayfield and Union City, TN --the sixth grade teams played last week and had a great game. Don't understand why the high school teams don't play. It would be a heck of a game.

Distance wise I'm fairly certain Tug Valley is closer to us than any other HS. We play them in every sport but football.
