i heard about the days when wheelright would only lose 1 game or go undefeated and not make playoffs...if they would have done it right then wheelright might have won a state championship

wheelwright was a good school many people didnt like us, but some just looked at the bad not the good that came from that school. I am very proud of where I grew up. Also playing football and basketball for the Trojans I made several good friends and as far as the fans go they where there through the good and bad. Very good coaching staff and crew that helped and you no you could depend on them any time you needed them. One that I remember the most besides the coaching staff was shelly Berger he was there for all of us at practice, games and off the field if you needed him. Great guy maybe hes on here and reads this I just wanted to say thanks for all you have done for wheelwright high school and the athletes to bad the schools gone.ÃÂ But South Floyd is very nice school I hope the students are proud to have such a nice facility.ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ GOD BLESS ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ :thx:

In 1977 Wheelwright had its best team to date. Coached by Daniels and Shorty Jamerson. Some of the players were Jamersonâs son, the Issac bothers, Thornsberry, Reed, Johnson, Hall brothers, Issac and Iâm sorry I cannot remember everyone of you. If I remember correctly they had the best record and were to head to state championship, but the powers that be were sending a team with an inferior record. Coach Jamerson went to the powers that be to plead Wheelwrightâs case. It was political that Wheelwright Football wouldnât got to state. Iâm not a Wheelwright alumnus, but I traveled over 450 miles almost every Friday to watch them play. They had great coaches that expected the players to be more than football player. They were being taught to be good men. They were exciting to watch and their supporters were great.

At one time Wheelwright was a very thriving community. They had a movie theater, swimming pools, parks, lots of stores, you name it. Sadly, that community declined as demand for coal decreased. Those kids were always tough and would hit you. David Hall was as good of a high school running back as you could ask for. Playing on that old field was always an experience!!!

Played vs Wheelwright in early 80's on their homecoming. It was very cold and snowing. We were down 28-7 at half. The extended halftime gave our coach time for extra a$$ chewing. It was a very exciting game, came back and won in second half in last minutes. I remember the nose guard for Wheelwright was HUGE. I played guard and he was a mountain to move. I do remember the Wheelwright fans were not too happy about the last minute loss

Played there one time in 1985. We won something like 42-20. I really remember is it being cold, dark, and damp even in the locker room we used.
