Danville vs. Mayfield (2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP)
#61
Snakesnot Wrote:This means nothing

It means Danville played a better schedule than you and won them all.

Means nothing for this game

If Danville lets Hurt's heart pump adrenaline and courage into everyone on the field, Mayfield wins this game. Danville should game plan everything on O & ST's to keep him from making plays.

Snakesnot Wrote:Means nothing for this game

I agree with that Snakesnot.

Strength of Schedules mean nothing at this point for any of these teams.

It's about which team can play their A game and make the plays to win the state title.

Two Great 2A programs! See who does a better job protecting the football.

Danville 35
Mayfield 29

Have these two teams ever played each other outside of the finals?

Hatz Wrote:Care to see how well Danville’s opponents did this year?

Already done. Pulled stats. Very comparable. If you take all of Danvilles opponents and average the rounds they made it to in playoffs, they average out at each making 2.3 rounds in playoffs. If you take Mayfield's you get 2.5.

Four Finals. 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992

Semis. 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

Maybe 2004.

I do feel like the game last night vs CAL is the best defense we have seen this year and I don’t see Danville’s D being any better. 2 high powered offenses going at all. Also I will say whoever’s D plays better gets the trophy.

Gonna be a dandy. As already mentioned, I too think the championship was decided last night at War Memorial. Just my opinion. Mayfield 35 Danville 28

I was kind of hoping that our fans had learned not to say these words. Please remember this before saying the championship was last night. In 2011 Hazard coach replayed the radio station commentators telling on air that there was no doubt that the real state championship had just been played between Mayfield and Beechwood. It didn't go so well for us at BG.

All 4 teams have played some good teams throughout the season and all have faired well and been impressive for the most part.. Think about it, outside of the 2 games where these 4 have played each other, they have a combined 51-1 record, so, obviously they're all very good teams.. I would bet that if these 4 teams played a 3 week round robin against each other, none of them would be unscathed and none would be winless. I'd even be pressed to say who'd have a winning record and who'd have a losing record.. IMO, any of these could beat any of the other on any given day..

I think this is very accurate. I'd say the margin between all 4 is razor thin.

Final fours are semis

So much has been made about scoring. Here is what I see, Mayfield has not been held below 17 points in any game. To be totally honest, we had our X factor qb unable to play that position that night, due to broken rib. We had our top linebacker and also one of our rb's out for most of second half. We had our starting RB out for the game. Last night was the next lowest scoring game. In that game we left points out there. We fumbled on a long drive, deep in CAL's end. We also had the ball at the end and just ran the clock out.

Danville has been held to 10 before. Also, if I'm not mistaken, they have given up more points than has Mayfield. A large portion of the points that Mayfield has given up, has been by its jv. Also a few were rendered by the offense.

Hound05 Wrote:Just going off matchups, cause I haven’t seen Danville play, I’ll go with mayfield. And I hope I’m right, cause that’ll make me feel better about our game with Boyle. But for those of you going off matchups. How does one predict mayfield will beat Danville but corbin will lose to Boyle. Because if you’re going by that train of thought, we’ll corbin > mayfield > Danville > Boyle. I’m with 55 on this one, although I wouldn’t say we blitzed the Ad’s last year. Mayfield has seen two of the best defenses in the state and went 1-1 on them. Yes Danville best Boyle, but I don’t think they can score enough to beat out that MF offense

I think all 4 you mentioned are pretty even. I dont think its stretch to pick Mayfield over Danville, and pick Boyle over Corbin since its so close. Honestly I have no idea who wins either 2a, or 3a since both seems like descent matchups.

Mayfield coaching staff will take Danville and make them tip their hat. I saw Mayfield takebtbe Morton kid at OCath 2 years ago and make him a none factor til Catholic put him at RB. Eventually they adjusted again.

Then they took Wright at CAL and made him a none factor.

If you want to beat Mayfield you better do 3 things:

1. Don’t turn the ball over. I know it’s cliche but it’s true. Cause they will capitalize 100% of the time.

2. You DL better dominate their OL.

3. You better be ready to play for 48 minutes. If you play for 47 minuets and 55 seconds you will lose.

I’m going to stay with my prediction and say Mayfield by 36pts. If I’m wrong I’m wrong. I predicted Mayfield to stop Wright and win 21-17 vs Cal. I was off 3 pts. They will win by 36. So I’m going to go 43-7.

Danville playing pretty good football right now. Look for them to pull this game out 28-14. Go Ads!
#77
I'm going with the Ads 34-17. Too much offense and just enough defense. #titletown
#78
I watched the ads play early, I watched my team (Corbin) play mayfield. This being said I give my support to Mayfield. Danville makes team pay by capitalizing on there mistakes, i don’t see Mayfield making many at this level. Mayfield 35-21. Now mysonis55 get them boys up baby it’s state title time
#79
I saw them in the parade tonight. I think they are ready. It will be business as usual. Tomorrow will start the ball rolling with film study.

Hey man nothing greater than being the underdog, we have been that all season.kids play loose and with nothing to loose. We will be there tailgating during the beechwood game, hell it will probably spill over to your game. Now my oldest(junior) is playing Boyle for high school title. Stop by cause the underdogs are bringing home the trophies.I can’t deal with the Boyle fans so I am staying off our forum, dealt with them enough when my youngest son gave them a spanking for the middle school title. So I am on here pulling for you guys.
#81
According to all the folks over on Max Preps, Boyle and Danville are quite the underdogs. Gotta watch those teams from title town.
#82
Should be a heck of a game. Both teams have speed to burn. Fewest mistakes is the key.

Several key injuries played a key role in that loss too.

Danville’s defense is as good as they come gonna be a good one.

I will try to make it in time for that. I'm not sure though. I will be escorting the Cards in. It will depend on when they want to start that way. I hope to be there plenty early. You know our bunch is pulling for y'all as well. I have been following 64's little cousin for years now. Now that my boy is playing for UC, he goes to watch them on Fridays.

We just played the best defensive team in 2a. Now I don't think they had as much offensive prowess as the Ads.

How many of these predictions are by folks who have actually seen both teams play? Or are these crystal balls based purely on assumptions, guesses, and score comparisons?
#88
Danville 34 Mayfield 27
#89
This thread reminds me of the Union City thread. UC was going to have their way and we had no chance. UC is a fine team and they are playing for the 2A Tenn. title this week but they they got hammered 41-0 by Mayfield.
Nobody is saying this how it's going to turn out but I believe Mayfield has a good shot to win this game.

This will be an interesting game. Davnville wins
