Something has to be done to generate more interest in RAM basketball. The talent is there. And a lot of talent is coming up through the ranks. I know it's not like football where you have class rankings. But we need to do better. And imo can do a better job. There should have been a packed house for this game. I for one didn't even know about it. And my kids go their. One is even on the sixth grade team. The Russell and Raceland schools should have pep rallys for this game. It should be huge. I know we have to play Ashland, Greenup Co, Russell, Boyd Co, East and West Carters. I know all the schools are alot bigger schools. But we compete in football with all these teams and win our share of them. If we went 1-4 0r 0-4 or 1-8. TJ Maynard and the rest of the coaching staff would be run out of town. The feeder programs need better coaches. Something like the 6th or 8th grade has. It starts at the bottom. And the school board should demand better. No excuses!!
Russell is disapointed that they didn't run us off the floor. And I bet some Russell parents are wondering why they didn't. Fact is Raceland has some talent. Now what???

There never has been much interest in basketball at Raceland. I don't think there ever will be. I remember going to games to see some competitive Raceland teams and the home side would not even be half full. I thought maybe with the new gym the crowds would be a little bigger.
I am surprised that they did not fill up the gym for Russell. That was one game a year that Raceland could fill up the gym.

The russell game was a make up game and school was out, I didn't know about it either but Raceland always takes a good crowd to games and most of the time has a real good home crowd. I think there is also some talent there but not in every spot. When your biggest man plays outside your not going to get off. rebounds! I think Coach Floyd is in a very tuff situation with the last few teams. I hope people understand that this situation isn't a coaching problem. We do need a better feeder program!!

I guess I have a few questions?
1. Who's responsible for the feeder program?
2. Who's responsible for the slow down fall the past few years?
3. We have two teams in the feeder system with very good head coaches. Could be HS head coaches. 6th and 8th grade. Why not the rest? Why not close to the talent of these coaches.
4. If this was happening in football would we be even talking like this? Would we be blaming the feeder program and lack of talent? I doubt it!!!!
WAKE UP RACELAND!!
5. I'm not blaming the coach. YET. But things need to be looked at. And things need to change.irateSho:popcorn:

(1) the parents and school board and coaches.
(2) Number of kids? Really don't understand your point.(MAYBE genes)
(3) Good athletes make coaches look good! Not so talented make coaches look bad.
(4) Raceland in my opinion is a football and Basketball school with baseball getting the worst end of the deal.
(5) Until you have 10 very good and older talent on the team this happens, it's called growing pains! Look at Boyd co. in football and Basketball the numbers were down and growing pains hurt them. The same coach at Rosehill during the oj and others looked like a great coach and post great players he didn't stay around! Because of growing pains. If all of our talented kids would come out and play we would be pretty good, but they would rather stay home playing video game and loafing at the mall.
It's always easy the blame the coach and point the finger but you can't coach kids like 20 years ago, their to soft and will quit.

Coach Floyd is a fine coach. Like most small schools the talent runs in cylcles. Last couple of years have been a bit down. Maybe only one player on Raceland could start for other 63rd district teams. And I know all the grade school coaches and none could make it on the high school level. Quit trying to start trouble for Floyd.

Chill!! Not trying to start trouble with coach Floyd. Just saying if these excuses were made by the football coaches. It wouldn't fly. NO WAY.
In football: If you lose to the local big schools the coach is in trouble.
In football: If you come close to .500 your coaches head is on the chopping block.
In football: The RAMS play the same local schools. GCHS, BCHS, Ashland, Russell, East/West Carter.
In football: You can't have down years. Your not aloud 5-5 seasons.
In football: You can't use the excuse every year. We just don't have the talent!!
In football: You can't use we are a small school. That excuse Fairview uses. I don't wan't to be like fairview.
If this small school can do it in football why not basketball! All I'm saying!
Why can't we beat these teams in basketball?

You're saying Raceland's 8th grade coach could be a varsity head coach?
12-27-2010, 08:55 AM
The Devils Really struggled without the brains of the operation on the court. Skaggs makes that Russell team go. It's a good thing Boyd had the best game of his basketball career. No Proud Ram Fan 1168 the talent is not there. But, it is coming. They will go 8 or 9 deep next year but, they will be really young.
12-27-2010, 09:30 AM
Boyd made some big shots. Raceland couldn't find anyone to prevent Hunt from getting to the basket and scoring. Porter is improving. Davidson had another double/double. Sure they miss Skaggs. But Raceland started the game on fire. Good to see Russell stay the course. Minus a 3 from Farley falling out of bounds, this is a double digit victory.
As for the Raceland future, they will have to wait until this sophomore class at Russell graduates to vie for a district crown. Floyd does a good job. Just handicapped talent-wise.

If you look at some of the coaches in this area. Why not? ie. Boyd Co's last coach, Greenup Co.. Need I go on?
It's not your knowledge of the game it's who you know!!
It's not how hard a worker you are (on and off the court) It's who you know!!
