Estill County 2011
#1
Estill had a good year at Going 5-6, i'm sure its not the way they wanted things to go, now they can start looking forward to next season.

Estill Loses

QB/K - Cade Berryman
RB - Kenton Roberts
RB - Tyler Cole
TE - Michael Edmonson
TE - Jasper Embry (Doesn't Play)
TE - Tyler Richardson
TE - Chris Hunt
C - Jon White
OL - Kyle Withers
OL - Charlie Howell (Doesn't Play Much)

Return:

RB - Randy Davidson #25
RB - Logan Mize #15
alot of there linemen

with a load of other great players and Estill will also be getting a tremendous 8th grade class, Estill will probably have a Freshmen QB (Coach's Son), but they also get a RB that averages 4 TD's A Game! alot of people including me think that Next Year will be a better year for the Engineers than this year.

These Are The teams That We Play Next Year but there is NO Current Dates, Locations and they Don't Go In This Order. The Times are yet TBA but i'm sure they will be at 7:30 like they have been

Breathitt County
Rockcastle County
Wayne County
Morgan County (Double Wing Clash - No Bowl Game, just Both Teams Run The Double Wing Offense)
Oct. 28th @ Walton-Verona 7:30 pm

Western Hills (District Game)
Powell County (District Game)
Bath County (District Game)
Bourbon County (District Game)
Garrard County (District Game)

thoughts?

Estill should be much improved next season IMO! I see them going undefeated in their district and overall anywhere from 7-3 to 9-1. The Wayne County game could probably go either way, the game Rockcastle County game would be kind of Ify, and I don't see them beating Breathitt County next year who only loses 4 players this year!

From the pre-season posts here, Estill fans appeared to be very optimistic and confident. I cant think but that the year was an overall disappointment for them.

It should be Hard to stop The Train Next Year!

Next year the District will be between Estill and Garrard. They will be #1 and #2. Garrard is losing 6 Seniors. Only 3 that has seen consistent time on the field. The team is currently made up of sophomores, starting 7 or 8 on both
sides of the ball. Garrard should be interesting too watch over the next 2 years.

Bath Co. will be in there as well. They also are only losing 6 Seniors but only 1 saw any significant time. They are returning 21 of 22 starters. Looks like Garrard and Bath are about the same age so these could be some very interesting games over the next few years.

Actually, here are the numbers of incoming upper classmen :

Bath Co. 15 Sr., 19 Jr.
Bourbon Co. 8 Sr., 10 Jr.
Estill Co. 14 Sr., 8 Jr.
Garrard Co. 9 Sr., 19 Jr.
Powell Co. 15 Sr., 6 Jr.
Western Hills 12 Sr., 11 Jr.

I don't doubt that Estill and Garrard are good, but I would not start selling tickets for that 1st round home game just yet because of:

* a Western Hills team that is used to playing much bigger schools than itself most of the time and returning many starters;
* a Bath Co. team with 21 returning starters and 34 incoming upperclassmen;
* a Powell Co. team that went 6-5 and returns 15 Seniors.

This district is wide open. I don't think you can call anyone a favorite. The #4 seed from this district looks like it will be a worthy opponent in the playoffs next year. And will probably have a winning record which is unusual for a #4 seed.

I don't see where any team in this district is head and shoulders above the others. It should be the weakest district in 3A. Although most of the teams return a lot of players they return a lot of players from losing teams. Here are the team's records this season:

Bath County 2-9 outscored 360-207
Bourbon County 4-7 outscored 373-171
Estill County 5-6 even 313-313
Garrard County 5-6 outscored 342-351 before playing Somerset Friday
Powell County 6-5 scored 5 points more than their opponents 276-271
Western Hills 3-8 outscored 349-160

Total Record: 25-41 outscored 2017-1464 that is an average of being outscored 30.6 to 22.1. Is there truly a good team in this district?

Bad news - You are right. The teams in this district all had rough seasons. The teams in this district will have to prove themselves on the field next season.

Good news - As stated above, some of these teams have alot of young players that have had to step in and play for one reason or another. Some were playing because they were better than the older players. Anyway you slice it, they have alot of young players that now have experience coming back. Just because there are not any marque names in Eastern KY football in that mix, you should be careful of labeling this the weakest district in 3A. Time may prove you wrong.

Good news - part 2 - With the exception of maybe Mason Co. (who loses a bunch this year) and Russell, district 6 is no stronger than this district. So somebody from 2 "weak" districts will be playing on Thanksgiving weekend for the next 4 years.

District 8 is loaded with big name teams and will be a fight. Although 1 looks to have come to a crossroads, Belfry, SC, and LC are going to be competitive every year. But if you take Breathitt Co. out of district 7, who is head and shoulder above anybody listed in district 5 or 6? Morgan, Magoffin, Knott, or Jackson Co. are really no different than anybody in district 5 or 6.

I said way back when, 3A will be the most competitive class in football next season (until you play Bell) and the most fun to watch, especially if you like Eastern KY football.
#9
I agree that 3A might be the toughest. With all these teams having younger
players with experience, it would not surprise me if this ends up being a couple of the toughest Districts in 3A next year. Records can be deceiving
when looking at the integrity of the programs and the teams played. It will
definitely be an interesting a year of footbal next season.
#10
it should be a very fun district to watch next year.

Estill returns some very good athletes, all of the line except 2, and has a very tremendous 8th Grade Class coming down.

Garrard County returns alot of there players including Markell Hayes and there QB (Can't think of his name)

Powell Loses 7 but hasn't beaten Estill but 4 times in the last 25 years.

Bath County Loses 6. they should improve from a disappointing 2010 Year.

Western Hills Loses 12 and should be a Rebuilding Year For Them in 2011

Bourbon County loses 14 seniors and like Western Hills it should be a rebuilding year for the Colonels.

as i see it, The District is up for Grabs. I think it will be between Estill and Garrard and Give The Edge To The Golden Lions, But anything can happen on any given day

Garrard County's QB is Billy Abney and he is only a Sophmore with 17 passing TDs and 1382 passing yds and he averages 17.5 yds per pass completion!

you will have to work to beat walton verona

heard the Rockcastle/Estill Game is on Sep. 9 @ Estill but nothing has been sit in stone yet, so it could change but as of now that's what i'm hearing

I have some bad news for Estill faithful from Rockcastle. We return everyone but 1 player. We are loaded this year. From the looks of the guys lifting, especially the Rowe kid, we are going to be strong and fast. We know the double wing is good, but we can shut that stuff down. We will have a new QB who can throw the ball good too so watch for us to spread you out and gash you.

wow really? why would you even say something like that?
#16
Hmmmmm. You know dude, I root for Rockcastle and like our chances this year as well. But, one word for you, humility. I don't drop burning matches into gas tanks either.
#17
I guess I am just overly excited with what we have coming back. Just having some fun with the Estill Co fans. My co-workers have made me very humble the last few years, when you are surrounded by PC fans they make you angry and hateful.

I see....lol. Hang in there. We play PC again this year on 9/16 I believe...hopefully we will make a better contest out of it this year. Estill isn't a team to be giving locker room wallpaper to though. They have gotten considerably better with only Breathitt seeming to be the hump they are having trouble with. They beat Harlan Co. two years ago if I remember right.

cant say i have ever seen estill play, only hear they run it alot

they did beat Harlan County 29-20 @ Harlan. they've came close to beating Breathitt couple times including last year when they recovered a fumble and ran it 40 yrds for a TD with about a minute and half to go if i remember correctly. Estill will be good.
#21
As long as Mike Jones is there, Estill will be fine!!

Rock will be tough. IMO not a good game for Estill. Unless depth is not a problem.

so the game is set on Sep. 9th @ Estill?

yes they will. when i was there i enjoyed being under Coach Jones and the rest of the staff.

[quote=Strikeout King]so the game is set on Sep. 9th @ Estill?

From what I have heard on my end....that is the date as of right now. It will be our fourth game of the season after Whitley County at home.

Thanks. i've heard that Date Twice, both on your end

I'm going to take a long shot and take Powell County to win it. Coach Burchett has a couple of years under him and the upperclassman he has will be players. And I just know Tony Bug loves double wings,,single wings,,he will eat almost any wing I think. :lmao:

i'm not familiar with Estill, but i've heard that Powell has only beat Estill 4 times in the past 25 years or something like that, i don't see them beating Estill this year, Estill always comes to play when these two teams face off on the grid-iron, don't get me wrong Coach Burchett and Powell will be good, and will probably win 7 games or more, but i don't see them beating Estill

Yes they beat us our first year by 1, we let them score their last td on purpose so we could get the ball back, but they went for 2 and got it so it was for not.
That was an excellent EC team, they had 11 4 year starters on both sides of the ball.

EC has not and will not be near that good again and will have a like record as this year 5-6 or 6-5.

They will lose all off non district games and rock/breathitt will kill themI think.

i beg to differ with the bold. i have some friends that's close to the Estill program. they return several good players, tremendous Running Backs. they also have a very talented class coming in from the middle school, with one of the RB's averaging 4+ TD's a game, Jonathan Collins, i think is his name. they will be good.

now i'm certain they won't beat breathitt, i don't know about Rock, there always good, there well coached. all we can do is wait and see.

and like Paul Crewe said As Long As Mike Jones Is There, they will be good
