There are just two captains on the Dixie Heights football team. One is senior linebacker Ryan Zumdick and the other is senior Bobby Leonard, the Colonelsâ do-it-all triple threat at receiver, defensive back and returner.
On Friday, captain Leonard helped steer the Colonels to a 47-20 home victory over previously unbeaten Holmes, capping a joyous senior night for Dixie at Rice Mountjoy Stadium.
By destroying the Bulldogs everywhere on the football field, Leonard made another strong case for being considered one of the best receivers ever to pull on a uniform at Dixie Heights.
But receiving is just part of Leonardâs shtick.
"Heâs a competitor, a great athlete," said coach Tom Spritzky, who loves Leonard as a receiver but canât resist the temptation to use the seniorâs myriad talents anywhere he can find a place for them.

Leonard was a force in ending the Bulldogsâ bid for an unbeaten season by showing just how well he has mastered all three phases of the game.
Leonardâs 12-yard first-quarter touchdown reception from quarterback Zeke Pike put the Colonels (4-4) on the board against Holmes (6-1). He also hauled in a 53-yard second-quarter touchdown pass from Pike to break a tie score and give the Colonels the lead for good at 20-13 with 7:15 remaining in the first half.
"He stepped up on senior night," Pike said of his favorite receiver. "Bobby just seemed to find the open spots tonight."
Pike passed for 215 yards. Leonard finished with five receptions for 133 yards for Dixie, ranked fifth in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coachesâ poll. That helped open up the running attack for Dixie as Seth Bruns and Colin Justice took turns gashing the Bulldogs.
Leonard has 26 catches for 577 yards (22.2 average) and four touchdowns on the season. That pushes his career totals to 82 catches for 1,228 yards and nine TDs.
Against sixth-ranked Holmes, Leonard moved past Phil Gerbus and into second place on Dixieâs all-time receptions list, just 13 catches short of E.J. Detmerâs school record of 95.
Leonard moved into fourth in all-time receiving yards. He needs 19 to take over third place all-time, and 374 yards to break Detmerâs record of 1,601 career receiving yards.
Leonard needs six receiving TDs to move into second place in that career category at Dixie. Detmer holds the record with 19.
Also Friday, Leonard returned a second-quarter punt 30 yards to the Holmes 35, which set up Pikeâs 14-yard rushing score three plays later that put Dixie up 26-13 with 3:42 left before the break.
Leonardâs first interception of the season, in the fourth quarter, also was the first thrown this season by Holmes quarterback Jesse Jensen, who was the Bulldogsâ offensive force with unofficial totals of 162 yards passing and 121 yards rushing.
"This just hurts really bad," Jensen said. "To put in all that hard work and lose like that, I just want to go home and go to bed."
With all of his big plays Friday, Leonard said his favorite was a block he put on Carlos Gipson to help spring Bruns for a 27-yard fourth-quarter rushing touchdown.
"I blew up No. 24," Leonard said. "That was my best play."
