Betsy Layne 66 - South Floyd 14
#1
After tonights fiasco against Betsy Layne, it may be time to drop the football program at SF. I have watched many games and I have to say that there is no heart or desire to be on the field from this team. I feel sorry for #15 and #5, good football players that are in danger of being injured due to the lack of effort from their teammates. Also, hope BL gets theirs next year when they move up, leaving all your starters in until the end of the game was a slap in the face to the SF coaching staff.

nice win for BL

I don't believe it's time to drop football at South Floyd. I do believe it's time for Coach Jonathan Parsons at Betsy Layne to learn how to win with class.

I have been with BGR since the beginning and have read/moderated many discussions. I've provoked discussions and even had to walk away from threads because things just didn't go right. Because of that, I've been pretty quiet posting wise this football season. However tonight was too much to keep bottled in.

First of all, congrats to Betsy Layne on a 2-0 district mark and off to their best start in school history. I believe this is the 3rd time the Bobcats have ever beaten the Raiders. You are to be commended to coming out and taking care of this game early and doing what you're suppose to do.

However, Coach Parsons needs to learn some class. With a 60-14 lead on a running clock with 7+ minutes to play you still have your starters in on offense? What do you gain from this? After punching in another touchdown, you leave your starters in on defense. What do you gain? Oh, an unsportsmanlike penalty (your second of the game).

You know the ramifications of leaving starters in and running up a score? Yes coach, that's what you did and you know it. This is class A football and if your team is moved up in classification next year (which is the rumor on the street) the tables will be turned.

I have no problem with the final score, its the matter of how you reached it. The Pikeville's and Belfry's of our sports world have been playing games with wide margins for years and those teams/coaches know how to play a classy game by doing something called SUBSTITUTIONS. If your subs still score on the opponent, there's really nothing else you can do. However, you didn't attempt to do this. Heck you even went as far as to call East Ridge to get game film on South Floyd after SF's coach truthfully stated he didn't have the film to exchange with you. Classless Parsons.

Learn how to win and respect your opponent. Betsy Layne as a school is better than this and deserves better. Betsy Layne has enjoyed great years of success on the basketball court both Girls/Boys and has always carried themselves with class. Just ask Junior Newsome or Cassandra Akers.

Your lack of experience in winning showed tonight. Don't tell me they had this coming or your school has been beaten up on in the past so it's justified. It's not. You chose to do this on your own accord and you're setting a bad example for your team.

:thanks:Jamey J. well said.

congrats BL...i knew the bobcats would win this one...

couldnt have said it better myself Jamie. I remember when Coach Daniels had to pull starters in the 3rd to keep from running the score up on them many times.

Also I wonder if the playbook that Maldonado got while at SF and never gave back helped tonight.

Wow, very impressive numbers for Betsy Layne
#9
Congrats BOBCATS!!!

Betsy Layne just wanted this one more, that was evident from the opening kick.

Congrats Bobcats!

Although they absolutely drilled SF, there was till was no reason to pass while ahead by 46 points and 7 minutes left in the game. The starters were left in the entire game.

Also, don't know if it were the camera man for BL or the apart of the coaching staff above the Box. Yelling "get ya some", when BL scored.

Classless win by the coach and great effort by the BL players. Congrats on a big win for the Bobcats!

I hate to hear this about coach Parsons, I've gained a lot of respect for him over the past three years. But you know what goes around, comes around.

Congrats Betsy Layne... keep your heads up Raiders!

Jammin Jamey,

I do believe that before you get on here and bash someone, you should get your facts straight and get to know the whole story!!!! I cannot believe that someone of your caliber would get on here and bash another coach. This is NO CLASS!!! When I was a Bobcat back in the day, it was nothing for us to get beat by 50 or 60 points every Friday night by teams such as Prestonsburg...... Would you say John Derosset has no class? Heck NO! This is FOOTBALL!!

danged if you do, danged if you don't!!!!!!!
#13
Up 50+ and still playing starters both ways = No class.

#15
Congrats Bobcats.

The difference when you were getting drilled is that their coach used subs that were still able to score. Leaving the first string in until the end is beyond classless, the only thing they were able to accomplish were several unsportmanship penalties. Obvious attempt to injure other players, too bad there are not any SF players that could have taken any shots late in the game. On a personal note, look forward to the day to meet BL's coach and discuss a little football.

Oh Yeah,

my son came home after watching 3 week old film on SF and told me half of the film was cut out!!!! And another thing, if we had SF's playbook (lol) then why would we be so upset to not get a full game from SF?????
#18
He did get a playbook and we didnt get it back. I guess he threw it away. He did practice with SF for a few days incase you didnt know and was declared eligible and Coach Hall didnt protest him going back to BL. As far as game film SF only has 3 coaches and usually noone to record games or take stats.
#19
Hate it for the Raiders, But Love it for the BOBCATS. Its there time to shine!!!!!!
#20
Some great passing and great Runs, and Teamwork on tackling 15.
#21
Wow !!!!

Class is when someone believes in there players, and Coach Parsons has always wanted to be a part of this group of kids, use to coach them in grade school bball. He knew what was in the future, Quit being jealoous and making a positive into a negative!!!!!!!!!! They deserve to put numbers on the score board like this, Thanks,
#23
Congrats BL. 2-0 District, good luck the rest of the way!
#24
I like seeing the community pulling together and backing these kids. They deserve it.
#25
I don't think they could've done this with out Jr. Newsome..

It is very upsetting to hear grown men calling a coach classless for winning a football game. Not all of the starters played the entire game. The last TD was scored by a NON offensive starter. As far as wanting to keep some starts late in the game was SF's ability to come back late in a game just as they did last year. This was a very important game for the bobcats so who would want to take any chances. Also as far as the passes made at the end why not get some players some yards that hadn't gotten much up to that point, and also why risk getting an injury for a few yards. AND JAMEY where were you on here when all the other teams were doing this to the bobcats in years past? I say stop bashing a team and coaches for finally turning a program around.
#28
FYI, the BOBCATS start 5 or 6 freshmen on this much improved team....but I guess BL winning is hard to take! if this score was the other way around, i would say not much would be said....good game players and Parsons....Get ready for Paintsville next week.
#29
I got Larry Dean on the radio that had BL score 3 TD's in the second half. Two were by Austin Hall. I dont think he started on offense. Also, Martin went 3 for 4. I know Maldonado was going for the receiving record tonight, I was wondering if he got it??????

NICE WIN BOBCATS!!!!
