I have been told all week that it is suppose to be a mix of rain, snow and ice today and tomorrow and I'm wondering if this is looking to be true. I'm hoping it isn't because I will be going to P-burg tomorrow after school if it doesnt...does anyone have any info on this?

Good afternoon on another ugly day here in the bluegrass state. Can we really complain, though? I mean we were near 60 Yesterday under sunny skies.
I know all of my fellow snow birds out there are probably fed up with this winter already. We totally waisted a cold December and now January is starting off very mild across much of the country. As I mentioned in my winter outlook... a rather extended period of above normal temps was expected in late January into early February with a change of cold soon after carrying us over into March. It is now my contention that this mild up has now started earlier than I anticipated. I was expecting roughly a 3 week window of milder air. We are in week 2 of the current run of mild temps meaning we should see another week or so of mild temps.
Moral of the story is we still have some mild times to go through to get to the middle and end of January. That is when a much colder pattern should be setting up for much of the country. I have talked about how the Pacific and Atlantic water profiles are now looking very good and are likely indicators as to what is to come. Keep in mind that there is a lag time between the oceans and their effects on the atmosphere.
Here is the usual breakdown:
Today into the overnight will feature some drizzle changing over to somw snow flurries and snow showers. Temps overnight will head into the upper 20s with snow showers increasing a bit. Some minor ac***ulations will noted across the higher elevations of southeastern Kentucky. Snow flurries will taper off on Friday as highs reach the low 30s.
The weekend looks okay right now. Highs on Saturday will reach the upper 30s. Sunday has me a bit befuddled as there may be some sort of a system shearing out across the Ohio Valley. Temps will head well into the 40s. Will there be a late day shower? Possibly.
Next week finds quite a model war going on as the Canadian is drawing in some really cold air by the end of next week while the GFS is very mild. I think both are off and a comprimise of temps is the way to go and that is what the European is showing. Basically we will see several shower chances with temps normal to above.
It is interesting to note that all of the models are showing winter returning by day 10. This would fit nicely as it would be at the end of my 3 week mild period.
That's all I have for now. See you on Friday.

I'm sure it will turn cold and snow just as my vacation is ending. I'm starting to hate winter.
01-05-2006, 09:15 PM
I hope it doesn't
01-05-2006, 09:29 PM
I don't think there will be any snow...we will probably get snow in April...lol...
01-05-2006, 10:32 PM
Wouldn't it be funny if the seasons were flip-flopped this year? Spring like weather now and in the spring have summer like weather and in the summer skip straight to winter weather...lol....that'd be funny...lol
01-06-2006, 01:21 AM
No that would be the end of days.
01-06-2006, 01:26 AM
I won't believe it until I see it either... I would love for it to snow though..
01-06-2006, 12:44 PM
Well, I didn't think that it would snow period but if it did then it wouldn't be a big deal but it came down at ER today. We are on the top of the mountain but it snowedpretty heard for a while and when you looked outside all you saw was white. Now it still snowing but not very hard and it's not really laying that bad. Roads like a little slushy but that's about the worst of it.

it snowed like crazy at my work.. last nite, and today, but nothing stuck.. now its all muddy and nasty..
01-17-2006, 07:00 PM

01-17-2006, 07:32 PM

01-18-2006, 12:19 AM
I don't think it will snow!
01-18-2006, 12:33 AM
I wish it would snow
01-19-2006, 10:28 PM
i wish it would snow enough 2 get out of school
01-19-2006, 10:46 PM
I wish it would snow enough to get out of work.
01-19-2006, 11:17 PM
hahah that's wishful thinking there CD.. lol. Since i've been in the workforce they have never called off work due to snow.. I've called in once because of it though.. But i've only been working for about 6 years.. So i guess anything can happen lol.
01-19-2006, 11:20 PM
In my old job when it snow especially really good I would certainly be at work even for days. He my current job for the past six years we work unless we get like 20 plus inches and my office would still work. However I wouldn't be able to get there in the hole that I live in i wouldn't be able to get out or back if i did make it out.
01-19-2006, 11:32 PM
Same here lol.. I think the only way they'd call it off is if everyone called in... Then they wouldn't call it off, they just wouldn't pay anyone lol..
01-24-2006, 02:38 AM
snow is like hard to find now days in floyd...........missed one day of school cause of it i think this year normally like 11 atleast.......
01-24-2006, 01:11 PM
I've heard possible snow tommorow but not until around 2pm.
Pike County has missed one day because of snow, hopefully it snows more so we can take off the other 11 that we have banked. If we don't use them, we lose them so I can't see why anyone wouldn't want out.

Started about 4 o'clock this morning and continued until like 10:30 or so.
