#1
I heard from one of the parents of the New Wesley High School in Allen thay they were going to try to start a Basketball Team this year and that Landon Slone was going to be the Coach. I thought he was playing at Pikeville College this year. Can anyone confirm this.

Unless things have recently changed, Derek Newsome is to be the coach. Coached the middle school there last season.

Never heard of this school, what can you tell me about it?

Yeah, where is this school? What region and district would they most likely be in?

Its in allen they will be 15th region but im not sure about the district.
#6
I would say the 59th district, where they only have a 3 team district.

Not sure who their coach is Derek Newsome isn't there anymore, thats what he told me. I don't know when they are planning to play in a District or Region.

I don't see this school listed on the KHSAA website anywhere, and when I Google the school (I had never heard of it) it only states they are a small Christian middle school, k-8. They also have very little info on the school website, actually not much of a website to speak of at all. Have they petioned the KHSAA to play basketball this year, and if so I take it they would play a reduced schedule and be on probationary status?

Is it a new school or a consolidation?

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter![/COLOR]

Do they have a basketball program for their middle school and elementary school aged kids?

Yes

With it being their first year, they need to schedule Rose Hill for 2 games. Give both of them a chance to win something this year. Haha

I dont see Wesley having a varsity. I would start at the bottom and just try to build it up with a freshman team.

I wouldn't say Rose Hill has a varsity team.

To inform everyone on here about the new Wesley Christian High School opening up, it is true, the building for the high school is nearing completion, and will be opening September 1st. As for the basketball program, it will start out as a 2 year school, 9th and 10th grade, there will be a freshman and junior varsity team. Couple years on down the road it will grow to an 11th and 12th grade, thus bringing in the varsity program. It is also true that Landon will be the head coach, once he graduates from Pikeville College, he will be the varsity coach, so by the time it becomes a 4 year school, he will have done graduated from Pikeville and it will all be his. As for the JV, his cousin is the coach of the JV team, and will be an assistant coach under Landon. Hopefully this clears everything up.

So, with that said, will they be a member of the KHSAA for basketball this season or will they play in one of the Christian conferences like the KCAA? It's hard to imagine that they would have enough kids to play, at least anywhere near competatively in the KHSAA anytime soon.

Who's the cousin?

I was told Steve Slone.

I thought it was state law that a person had to be 21 years old to hold a supervisory role with students (teacher-coach). Is the coach 21?

I am not sure about Wesley Christian High about coaching ages. They are a private school, so they can probably have whomever they want coach. They are in Floyd County which goes by the state public education rule of being 21 years of age to coach. But I wouldn't imagine they would have to follow that, like the other Floyd County teams have to. Up our way in the Beaver area I know a school got in trouble over having a coach under 21 on the staff. It was an honest mistake, but still a NO NO!

To answer BCA's question, it is going to be Steve Slone, and he is 21 years old. Landon is 20 right now, so by the time he graudates he will be 22 when Wesley will turn to a 4 year high school.
