Montgomery County is getting turf.

Work has started and is expected to be completed by August 1st.

If I were them, I'd put my energies into winning some more games. They have a great website, great boosters, a good staff, and a town which produced some great teams years ago. But they do not win crucial games. Traveling to Highlands did not help. The big problem there is getting enough kids interested.

Ive played at Mont Co. before and they have one of the collest setups there is in KY football. The field never was even that bad, but with the new field play turf....Coach Gooch will have facilities to rival if not excell over the best in the state.

With Montg. County being the only school in Mt. Sterlling is a program that could take off at any time

Be great to get the Rec Bowl back up and going with big name teams coming and playing again.

The out of town bowls in larger cities have the financial backing to attract the A-List programs. I remember when the Rec Bowl was the game and got prominent front page coverage in the C-J and H-L when it was played at Jones Field and even the early years at MC. Having that retro night a couple of years ago was a great effort to get the core city school folks on board, finally. Should have been done 30 years ago. I always felt the old Mt. Sterling crowd, and there is still a big core there, never fully embraced the merger. That came in part from the county obliterating any mention of the city program and even letting the city athletic trophies fall into disrepair. That stuck in a lot of people's craws. Bottom line, Gooch has done a great job of getting everything in place to win and unifying the fans. Now he needs to win.

TRUTH is Montgomery cannot compete in their district past couple years. They are a well below average football team and a not very good football team in 5a. They need to worry more about winning some games but the field upgrade is more so for the rec bowl game setting imo. Winning 2 or 3 games a year aint getting it done and Montgomery used to be respectable under Raines they played in the state semis 2 years in a row. It aint a program waiting to take off as the above guy said, It's a program that has took off but in the wrong direction.

This is exactly right on the money.

Should make an already beautiful facility even better. I'll be looking forward to seeing the new turf the next time I visit.
