Cordia 63 Letcher Central 53
#1
Very Physical game from start to finish...congrats Lions on getting the 3 seed
#2
Congrats Lions. I think they will beat JBS in district.
#3
Congrats to the Lions, tough game sounds like. Didn't think it would of been 10 pt win, Good luck with JBS in the district.
#4
Congrats Lions, coach Honeycutt does a good job year in year out.
#5
Honeycutt definitely does a great job, congrats to the Lions. Deserves much more credit than he gets over their. Should of definitely had the Knott job instead of them going out and getting someone like they did. They had one of the best coaches around and didn't even give him a chance.

Congrats Cordia

This was a bad loss for LCC and puts their backs against the wall. They will have to beat Knott in the district tourney just to get to the regional tourn. Tough---yes Impossible---no.

I agree windsprint, they have got their backs against the wall, they could possibly win, but first this team has to realize, that they are playing to represent the name on the jersey, and play with some pride for their school, NOT FOR INDIVIDUAL STATS, I personaly could care less how many points a kid scores, as long as they all give 100 %, and I think if they all will do that, including my own son, this team can be a pretty good team, but untill this happens their gonna struggle to win games JMO !!!!!

Congratd Cordia;however, I just don't see them getting past JBS in the district tourney.
#11
Congrats Cordia! They were trailing at halftime but they never gave up. Good win for Honeycutt! Cant wait to see them get another chance at JBS! Go Lions!!

I've only seen LCC play 3 or 4 times this year, but what jumped out was how much on an individual game they played. Rarely made extra passes or ran offensive sets; just tried to beat people off the dribble. The other thing that really disappointed me was their lack of effort/intensity on defense. They will never compete in the 14th unless they become tougher and play harder.

I think your right, these are all great kids, they just havent came together as a TEAM, and I hope that they can salvage the rest of this season, and I think they can, all they have to do is give that 100% effort on defense and offense, make the extra pass, anything they can do for the TEAM, if they all will do that they will win some games !!!!!!! LETS GO COUGARS, get it together, I'm pulling for ya , as is the whole community and your school !!!!!

They had him as coach once at KCC, replaced him, and moved him over to Cordia. Then that same year that they switched him to the other county school, he beat the Pats in the post season. I know that had to make him feel good.

That's what I've seen too. They have no identity on offense. It's like they run the offense with no purpose ya know, and after a few passes, someone just goes one on one. They don't really have a go to player, they have a bunch of role players. Somebody needs to step up and be the man and maybe the offense would run more efficiently.

There is a reason for the team playing selfish on offense. It has been established since the beginning that from Freshmen up to Seniors -Varsity time is by points scored. I personally rather see a young man who plays hard nose defense start than one who goes down and throws up the ball every chance he gets. I believe with good defense offense will come. I think the coach should start by having all players scrimmage each other and see who gives it with 100% on both offense and defense. I think that from bottom up starters should have to earn their position based on teamwork and defense.

looks like lcc didn't do a good job picking a coach

Well lets give the guy a chance, this is his first season here, he has to have time for the kids to buy into what he is doing, I think he will do fine , if given the chance..........time will tell !!!!!!!

Letcher Central has the talent to beat or compete with every team in the district and region. The question is leadership in my opinion, and I think these kids need to listen to the coaches, and be a team instead of individuals.

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter![/COLOR]

He's not a very smart coach. He was lucky he had a guy like Polson to carry him to the Sweet 16 and get him a big pay raise. All that money is going to waste.

I can see LCC upsetting the Knott Count Central Patriots in the disctrict tourney. I would love seeing it too.. Let's go Cougars!:Cheerlead Keep your heads up.
#27
Great win by Cordia!! Isnt this a little bit of an upset? I know that Cordia has a nice team this year but isnt Letcher one of the heavyweights in the region?
#28
LCC is 8-14 so far this year. I wouldn't classify them as heavyweights. The only thing heavy is new coaches paycheck.

Ha! I thought that they had been doing good this year within region but I guess I may had been thinking of another team. Well I am sure that the football team was great. But basketball, I guess is building.

Coach Hammonds is doing a good job at Letcher County Central. As far as pay goes, Coach justice made more At Letcher than Coach hammonds is. The pay is based on years experience. The head coaches(girls basketball, boys basketball, and football) at LCC make 25% of their base salary. Base salary is based on years experience for teaching. Coach Justice was on a 240 day pay schedule and he has 20 plus years experience. This means his base salary was much higher than coach hammonds. Although coach Hammonds is an assistant principal, he is on a 220 day pay schedule and he has 13 to 14 years experience. Give the guy a chance, he will make this program a successful one.
