just saw on KHSAA Website that Taylor County head coaching position is open. what happened to Rodney Turpin???
01-28-2010, 10:51 AM
I'm not sure but I think they asked him to call the defense and replace a couple of assistants and he didn't want to so he resigned. Nobody's talking about this job, but I heard they had over 40+ applicants in the first week. They've had 3 winning seasons in the last 20 years. Somebody sees something good there...

i read on Topix that the new coach won't be from Taylor County. id like to know who applied for the job

I thought he was going to step down after this season because his son was graduating. But it seems that the job would have potential.

But it seems that the job would have potential.Turpin was getting a lot of heat from the parents and fans of TCHS because of the record he has over the 6 years he has coached. He also has not been able to field a competitive team against winning teams, getting beat by 40+ points. He did win a District title in 08, but that was a fluke and the district was as weak as any in the state of Ky. Also, there is a new superintendent and he is a "sports" guy. ^ years and a approx 24-44 recoed is grounds for a change. I have heard many names, but I hope that someone from out of town that has no local friends comes in and hires without an agenda as far as people being his friends.

I do hope that the new coach is going to be from out of town, following Campbellsville High Schools lead.

Interviews start today. Does anyone know any of them?

Heard that Coach Mike Griffiths from Green County was offered the position and he has taken it. Not official yet, but he was seen cleaning out his football office, so that could mean a move to another school, or just early spring cleaning...lol. Mike Griffiths had been talking about leaving over the past couple seasons for whatever reason, maybe the opening @ TC is what he was wanting, who knows.

Mike Griffiths is staying @ Green County and will not be the next head coach @ Taylor County. I know Topix is rarely correct, but that is the source.

The school needs someone to come in with the mental toughness to build the program from ground up and get rid of the "excess-weight" that hangs on the program. I wish the program the best of luck.

they sure don't get enough support from the parents, couple years ago when Estill went there, we took more fans with us then they did and it was at TC

Earlier that season they played Wayne County for their first outright district title in school history and the stands were less than half full. I thought that people would understand the importance of the game, but I was disappointed to say the least. They missed a great game, Wayne beat TC on a last second Hail Mary throw while the QB was falling back.

Thats Sad. to have football program that don't get the parents/fan support. its sad to be out numbered by a team's parents/fan support that comes from about 2 or more hours away

From Campbellsville Topix:
"New head coach is from Lexington Christian Academy. He's been an assistant there for the past few years, and an assistant there and a couple other places for 15-20 years. His name is Curtis Cotton."

"Starting right out of high school because a neck injury prevented a college career, Curtis Cotton has been coaching football nearly half (17) of his 35 years. On Friday afternoon, Taylor County High School hired Cotton as the Cardinals’ eighth head coach. TCHS principal Charles Higdon Jr. recommended Cotton to the site-based council and Taylor County superintendent Roger Cook. The council and Cook approved Higdon’s and a committee’s decision, and Cotton’s hiring will become official when the school board acts on the recommendation at its next meeting. “I’m very, very excited,” Cotton said by phone on Friday afternoon about getting his first head coaching assignment. “I don’t know how long it’s going to take me to get my heart rate down. “I’ll be coming down a couple of days a week and get involved with the weight-lifting program,” Cotton continued. “I’ll tweak a few things for spring ball once we get a staff together. “It’s a community we feel comfortable with,” Cotton said of his family, which includes wife Rachel, seventh-grade son Jacob and fourth-grade daughter Camille. “We’re excited about the administration and feel like the situation has a lot of potential.” Cotton comes to TCHS from Lexington Christian where he was the offensive coordinator on coach Paul Rains’ Class A state championship team. It was Cotton’s third trip to the state finals. He was on the LCA staff in 2007 that finished runner-up to Beechwood and was also on the staff of Sam Simpson at Lexington Henry Clay (as defensive coordinator) when the Blue Devils were runner-up to Louisville St. Xavier in the Class 4A title tilt in 1995. Teams which Cotton has been involved with have made six trips to the state semi-finals. “I’ve made a point to get to know as many coaches as possible in Central Kentucky,” said Cotton, who is friends with Campbellsville University head coach Perry Thomas and assistant Tim Rogers as well as Chuck Smith, current University of Kentucky assistant and former Campbellsville and Boyle County High School coach. “We feel like we have the right man for our school, our athletes and the faculty,” Higdon remarked. “He’s a proven coach and teacher and those are hard to find.” Cotton runs a form of the spread offense and uses a 3-3 stack as his defensive alignment. Cotton said his family would not be making the move to Campbellsville on a full-time basis until school is out at Lexington Christian, probably in early June.
