Octavio Dotel made $6 million last year while pitching for the Chicago White Sox. For that kind of cash, the Sox got 62 appearances from the 36-year-old and he managed to end up with a 3.32 ERA and strike out 75 batters in 62 1/3 innings.
Now the Pittsburgh Pirates want some of that, but certainly don't want to pay that kind of dough. The two sides supposedly have (or are closing in on) a deal, according to MLB.com.
Dotel would likely take over closing duties in Pittsburgh and help train Joel Hanrahan and Evan Meek to take that spot down the road.
