#1
ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A fire at a nursing home in far-northern Michigan killed two people early Monday and injured dozens, officials said. <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("");</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a){yzq_a('p', 'P=o7BFvkSOwhXWWIp0Q50Gkg12RbArBEOdfK0ACf3l&T=17adccu5n%2fX%3d1134394541%2fE%3d8903239%2fR%3dnews%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d645802321%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PSJudXJzaW5nIGhvbWU7aG9tZTtuZXdzLnlhaG9vLmNvbSIgcmVmZXI9Im5ld3MueWFob28uY29tIg--%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d4AC28E44');yzq_a('a', '&U=139bk6o02%2fN%3d_xbWlESOxI4-%2fC%3d380060.7477874.8401719.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d3121343');}</SCRIPT>

The blaze was reported about 12:15 a.m. at the 122-bed Mather Nursing Center in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, about 360 miles north of Detroit.

Two people died of smoke inhalation, said Bell Memorial Hospital spokesman Rich Rossway. Sixty others were treated there and at Marquette General Hospital; 12 of them had been released by Monday morning. Conditions of the injured were not released.

Authorities said there was no immediate word on what caused the fire, which was concentrated in two rooms at the home.

"They're still just trying to take care of the residents," said State Police Sgt. Brian Graustein.

A woman who answered the phone at the nursing home but declined to give her name said nobody was available to give details on the injuries.

Residents were given temporary shelter at a church, a town hall and another facility operated by hospital volunteers, authorities said.

The midnight temperature was 14 degrees at nearby Gwinn, with snow falling.
