on a whim I would put letcher county central up against some small college teams just to see how they fare. They are truly the pride & joy of the mountains this season. Knott county central although having a very fine season have a few questionsmarks in there resume after The Clay county game. Who knows this may be the game they Find all the answers.
Or will they be just a small Bump in the road for LCC on its way to an eventual state championship. After the dust & feathers settle..who's the winner and by how many good neighbors..:popcorn::popcorn:

LCC wins by 15 on the way to their first state championship.

LCC by 18....The balanced attack by LCC will be to much for Knott Co...

I am going to take Letcher Central in this one. I have a feeling that given the chance Coach Adams will attempt to score as many as his team can and blow Knott out of the water. I'm happy to know that Knott is off to one of their best starts since 2005 however their wins mean nothing simply because of who they beat. Had they played better competition and came out with the record they have I would be worrying about them.
The key to beating Knott is simple take the ball out of Paige Slone's hands. There is no one else on the team who can dribble well enough to handle the ball.
Knott's big girls need to step up and play if they even I have watched finishing on the inside. For a girl her size there is no reason for her not to score when she gets the ball down low. I have yet to see King or Pratt play well. Both of those girls should be leading the team in scoring.

First LCC has to get over the Breathitt County roadblock as well as take care of the Knott's and Perry's along the way. If they do that then they can focus on the state. State title talk for any team in Eastern Kentucky is a little far-fetched and premature at this time.

The way some people talk on here KCC is lucky the game was postponed because they were about to get beat to death and stood no chance to even keep it close.

HA! I really just spit my drink all over the computer screen!! Wow. You can't be serious. . .at least tell me you were kidding just a little. A small college team??? You really need to take off your blue colored goggles and get outside the 14th region and watch some basketball. Not taking anything away from the Lady Cougars. They are a good girls basketball team for around here. But compared to the Marion Co.'s, LCAs, the Manual's and Mercy's its not even close. Im sorry. They are on a whole different level of basketball size wise, speed wise, and athletic wise. Letcher will be lucky to win the region. . let alone a state title lol. And in response to the Knott and Clay game . . .Knott was only down three at the half and thats after the referee went crazy and started calling phantom fouls and technicals. . but thats given when you play at Clay Co. Yes, Clay beat Knott but the game was wayyyyy closer than the 18 pt victory. Knott may not win the region this year but they are a dangerous team and could be a spoiler for a team or two.

I agree that teams around here need to improve to be able to compete on a consistent basis with teams out in the state although the statewide level of talent is down(LCA is down this year). Clay is down right now, as they have not been playing consistent ball all year and one of their star players went down with an ACL. I agree that Knott can be dangerous as well as Perry, Powell, and Leslie, but they are going to have to prove that down the road when they play Letcher and Breathitt. Until someone knocks them off their perch, Breathitt is still the team to beat. LCC is breathing down their neck and even a darkhouse could step in and pull some upsets.

Mountain basketball will continue take a back seat to big city schools.
Over the summer High school players from our 2 local school s
scrimmaged against some players from a local college. No score was kept
but from all indications the high school girls won handily. actually showed up the college starters at times. maybe not a testament to our mountain athletes but a downpraise of talent being brought in from out of state
when as good or better players is closer to home.
Noble is a wonderful player which only needs to improve on her free throw shooting. as does slone of knott.

Just because LCA is not what they were last year means NOTHING as far as statewide talent goes. Marion County, Manual, Mercy...those teams are legit and would destroy the mountain teams. Take a trip to the LexCath tournament if you want to see the best the state has to offer. If your basketball IQ is up to par, you'll be able to distinguish between a good mountain team and a bona fide state title contender.
