Was under the impression that next year was only going to be a JV schedule, but now have been told that they are going to play varsity.
What district and class will they be in??? And who is going to be the coach??

They will be class 4A. My guess that they will be in region 1 district 3 along with the other Louisville area schools in 4A. I am pretty sure Collins and Shelby Co. will be in the same district (Shelby will be dropping from 6A). As far as coach, I heard rumors about who the next coach will be. I am not naming names because I do not want to spread false information. They could be a force very quickly in 4A.

If you are talking about Collins and Shelby Co. Yes. According to one of the assistant coaches at Shelby Co. I talked to.

There has been a number of emails going around the coaching listserv trying to fill games left open because of the change. I tried to find out the district make up but I have not had any luck. Shelby has a chance to make some real noise with the Jr being able to stay at Shelby instead of MLC. MLC if it gets the right staff could be real good real fast. It is going to be interesting to see how both schools perform over the years in 4A. This might be what is needed to bring the area back to its football tradition.

Good luck

Which team will be very good the first year? I find it hard to believe both could come out of the gate running.

It all depends on where the players go. The current group of juniors at Shelby Co. have the choice of which HS they can go. If they all elect to stay at Shelby,Shelby Co. could be really good in 2010.

I would not be surprised if they (the jrs) stay at Shelby Co to make a run together. I would also not be surprised if a few of the current So get a little creative with their address so they can be a part of it.
MLC will have talent from the beginning. They might have to play a bunch of young kids but in a few years with the right staff they are going to be very good.

How many students. This is similar to the Cooper HS opening.

I assume that it will be zoned.

This job will be filled in the spring. A late hire. Help or hurt?

what their team name?

I think that it will hurt because trying to have a team ready for varsity competition will be hard. And I don't think that many coaches will want to be hired that late.IMO

They will be the Titans. They were at one point making it sound like they would hire the coaches around Feb or so. There are some people already in the system that want to coach there so there is a chance they could have spring workouts.
It will be zoned following the same lines as the 2 MS is my understanding. It mainly splits the county in two (north/south). The current Jr get to pick which school they wish to attend. Everyone else is suppose to follow the lines. There were a few So that started for Shelby Co this past season. Mike Brooks jr is one of them (his dad was 4A player of the year in 95). He would be in the MLC district but I would not be surprised if he ended up playing Shelby Co during his Jr year.

His dad was in High school in 95 and has a soph in high school?

Yes that is correct (his son might be a Fro this season now that I think about it) . He dad was part of the 96 class (4A player of the year for the 95 season). I played with his dad all the way growing up.

Some posters on another site seem to think they know who the new head coach will be.
12-14-2009, 11:07 AM
Did they give a name? I saw a post where a person said they thought they knew but did not want to say. There was talk a while back of a guy that was from Shelby Co who played I think the 80s going to be the coach. I know there is a staff of coaches that are already in the school system that are interested in the job.

Made a comment that the new MLC coach is truly a REBEL. They made a reference to a Mayfield assistant who is friends with the new principal.

I read in the Sentinel News where the Shelby County School Board agreed to pay for several "upgrades" in the athletic facilities for this new school.
Going to have a field house and synthetic turf playing surface.
Ought to be a great place from the start!

They will have VERY nice facilities and will have a strong feeder school (Shelby West). Add that to the fact that 4A currently a little more open then some of the other classes as far as teams that can compete for a title. That is of course with the thinking that Highlands will not drop to 4A at some point. The school has a HUGE upside if they get the right person. I just hope they do it right. It will also be in the new HC's best interest to build a good relationship with the West Middle staff.

I hear that there is interest in this job out of Bell County.

I heard that someone from Bell was intersted but I don't know who as of yet. I am going to try to find out over break.

They should have called themselves the Governors. Austin Peay has the same name.

The name fits better than Titans.

MLC is not going to name a coach until school administration is set, sometime in Feb.

I can not believe that MLC will play Varsity next year. I do not know of any teams with open dates.
Shelby Co could be a major factor in 4A next year.
