Checking in: Scott County
#1
From Jody Demling's blog in the Courier Journal...
Scott County is loaded with talent again.

And veteran coach Billy Hicks is not backing down from the competition with the Cardinals getting serious challenges in almost every game this season.

About 12 of the teams on the schedule, not including teams that Scott County will face in tournament competition, are ranked among the top three in their region.

But Hicks has the talent to take on the top teams.

Senior Ge-lawn Guyn was ranked No. 2 in the state in the preseason and is a solid leader, while guard Chad Jackson (photo) and forward Dakotah Euton are also among the top 10 players in the state. Euton has signed with Akron.

The Cardinals also have depth, led by Austin Flannery and Tamron Manning among others will be key contributors.

And what a way to open the season, playing Dec. 3 at Seventh Region power Ballard before meeting Franklin-Simpson Dec. 5 in Frankfort.

There's a Dec. 8 game at home against Tates Creek before the Cardinals play Corbin at Clay County in the Dec. 11 Bobby Keith Classic and Cincinnati Roger Bacon in the Dec. 12 Kentucky Bank Shootout at Bourbon County.

Scott County hosts Norcross (Ga.) - a national power - on Dec. 21 and will play in the Beachball Classic just after Christmas in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

It doesn't get any easier after the holidays, playing Male in the Central Bank Classic on Jan. 9 at Lexington Christian, hosting Bryan Station Jan. 15, competing in the Toyota Classic in mid-January, playing at Clark County in Jan. 30 at Bryan Station on Feb. 2 and at home against Lexington Catholic on Feb. 13.
