Who is next years 5A District 8 favorite?
#1
Following a year when this district was clearly the most competive district in the state from top to bottom, who will be the favorite for next year?
#2
Lcc
#3
Lcc
#4
Letcher Central
Clay County--- they have a large talented junior class
Harlan

These should be the favorites, if injuries don't become a factor
#5
Dont be suprised if this district is crazier next year than it was this year, should be pretty even again.

I expect Whitley to struggle, on offense they lose virtually there whole offensive line, along with there quarterback and two runningbacks. They do have some good younger kids who have shown a lot of potential and should be able to step up and make some noise.

The one thing Whitley definitely needs to do is find some kids! We have got to stop so many kids from having to play both ways especially on the 5A level.

Already counting down the days.....

Whats some of the schedules around this district?
I know Whitley will have it tough again with home games against Lex Cath, Lynn Camp, and Rockcastle, and have to travel to Belfry and Bell, along with there district games.

I think LCC losing that many seniors and losing Hillard Howard makes for a year of rebuilding. Although Johnson was and is their bank money, most all other big play makers (who were his support) and several linemen are moving out to graduation. But, if Johnson stays at Letcher, he will provide them their offense. IMO year after next LCC will be in the run again. Don't misunderstand me, LCC will be a dangerous team next year. It's just the fact that his recievers, many of their leading tacklers, and RB's are graduating. LCC has young support who will fill in. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!

Lcc will be very dangerous next year indeed. They return ALL of their o-line and look for drew bentley and Jesse Rose to lead a potent running attack. Jr Matt Boggs will emerge as a very talented reciever as will Sophomores Keiston Hall and Chriss Tyree. Jr. Sid Fields, (If he wants to) can be a dominant inside runner with maybe the best hands on the team. The D returns their stud MLB in Ryan Hall and expect big things from Sophomore Sam Sergent. I think they will not as deep as last year, but could IMO be better. I think you will see much more discipline from these kids as well as a better work ethic. Good luck Cougars

Harlan County should be the best next year.

Why wouldn't Johnson be staying at LCC next year. LCC will have some shoes to fill but they have plenty of good young athletes to fill them as they had strong JV and Freshmen teams last year. They return most of their defense and their offensive line. They also return Drew Bentley, Jessie Rose, and Dalton Taylor who are all experienced running backs. The receiver positions are the most "suspect" at this time.

Thats what I said, they have strong young group to fill, they lose lots of their leading defense, lose some line as well, and although they have Bentley Rose and Taylor they lost Brown Huff Adams Stephens Smith and Collins. These were big contributors and helped Johnson. Nevertheless, LCC will be tough and Johnson will lead his team in tackles, passing, rushing, interceptions, and scoring.

The main thing I was questioning, you stated " if Johnson stays at Letcher Central". I was just wondering if there is something going on that I am not aware of.

Dont leave out Perry they are coming back with the whole offense line. lose 2 off of defense. You have Rankin ,White .Beatty. You lose Amis at Qb which is a big lose. 6ft3 215lbs Boggs will be the Qb next year so the passing game will grow. Boggs is not that big of a runner. But they do have Rankin in the back field. And having the Robinson's brother and devin back at the linebacker. Perry will be there JMO.

I was wondering the same thing. I wish people would quit about these rumors about players leaving. This is sad!

Johnson should lead the team in passing, rushing and scoring. Although an all around great athlete I would hope they wouldn't use him that much on defense. I think they have a good defense of young players comming up next year. And if the coaching staff is smart they won't take extra chance in him becomming hurt or over worked. IMO he will not be needed that much on defense next year although he is the best. His QB ability is the most important thing to the success of this team. Without him in that position LCC season would be doomed.

That would be the main reason to leave them out.

Perry will be down tremendously. Loosing way too many good players.

Perry 2nd or 3rd wait and see their d well be tough
#19
They will be tough early, but as BB season rolls around they will lose focus dreaming of the hardourt and be an early exit, but their MS team has been loaded the last couple of years so don't count them out.
#20
I think Clay will have the most talent next year, returning all key players on offence, and alot of talent on defence. And they will have more seniors next year, than they had in recent years. So talent, along with experience will go a long way for them. As long as they can stay healthy, and play with more disipline than they did this year.
#21
It will be a two horse race with only Pine Mountain separating them.
#22
I was thinking the same thing orange.

Perry Central does have a good LB coming back next year, but lost alot. Letcher lost alot of their skill players. Whitley lost a bunch, but have Bramlet to maybe spark some. North Laurel will be building, but can't be overlooked. Clay County will return a large group and if they can get it together, could be tough to deal with. The Black Bears will be fine and dandy. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!!
#25
Clay County could be a darkhouse as they are still a mystery.
#26
Although Letcher lost most of their skill players to graduation, they will fill in with great younger prospects. They will be fine as well, but will be in a development stage. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!
