Moore's football coach resigns
#1
Robert Johnson has resigned after five seasons as football coach at Moore, where he compiled an 11-41 record.

Johnson, a former assistant at Ballard and Seneca, said his job as a graphics teacher is being moved from Moore to Pleasure Ridge Park.

"I resigned because I just don't think it's right to be at one school and coach at another," said Johnson, whose Mustangs finished 3-8 this season after losing 57-27 to Henry County in the first round of the Class 3-A playoffs. "As much as it grieves me to resign, I think it's the best thing. The thing that hurts is that I think we're going to have our best team at Moore since the 2001 team (that finished 7-5)."

Johnson, who has coached since 1976, said he plans to be an assistant coach in Jefferson County next season.

"I guess you could say it's in my DNA to coach," he said.

Moore athletic director Steve Silvano said the school is accepting applications for Johnson's replacement
