Ashland girl murdered
#1
Whitni Self, 18, 13 days shy of her 19th birthday, a 2005 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School (Ashland), died early this morning. Shots rang out around 11pm last night on the 2400 block of Blackburn Avenue. Self was taken to the hospital but passed away early this morning.

Aaron Evans Caldwell Jr (the name may be wrong or even misspelled but that's what I thought I heard on the news this morning) was arrested in regards to the shooting by Ashland police.

Both were just teenagers.

What a terrible story. I didn't know either of them, but was able to look up Whitni Self in the school yearbook, she was a year younger than me. This kind of tragedy is a rare event in the area. Everyone feels so safe and secure in Ashland, it is and always has been a great place where you can leave your doors unlocked, walk around at night, and always say hi to a friend and stranger alike and always get a cheerful reply. A very saddening story for the city.

Seen that story on the news this morning, and you are right it does shock us when something like that happens.I think in a way we are sheltered from a lot of the more horrible crimes that go on in other parts of the country. So when something does happen it makes us appreciate more where we live .My heart goes out to her parents, having a daughter around that age I can't even imagine having to deal with something like that.

Very sad. This kind of thing is why there needs to be more regulation on guns in America.
#7
And before anyone gets riled up, I own guns and find there to be nothing wrong with that, but there needs to be some severe background checks going on to buy a gun.
#8
There are background checks but when joe blow off the street wants a gun its not to hard to get one ad 98 i am with you on this one, there needs to be a better way to control it but you will never get ride of the criminals getting their hands on guns if they want one. My Prayers go out to there family ,

This is sad. Seems times are changing. Small town America seems to being losing its sense of security.

God Bless the family and the Ashland communtity.

UPDATE:

I don't have any exact for sure truth details but this is what I've heard. Apparently Whitni was at her friend's house. Her friend had broke up with the guy and start dating a new guy. The guy (her ex boyfriend now) got jealous and wanted to scare her by shooting at the house. One of the bullets went through the window and hit Whitni in the head.

The accused man was already in custody during the 6AM news.

Extremely sad story to hear.
Times have definetly changed and to be so young and espically that innocent about the whole situation really makes my heart go out to her.
She was around my age and for her life to be cut so short really makes one think.

Yeah it does...
We'll all keep her family in our thoughts n prayers*
