Ten of the most interesting games this weekend:
â¢ST. XAVIER at MANUAL: The Crimsons have already lost to No. 2 Trinity, No. 3 Highlands and Cincinnati Colerain. Now they take a shot at No. 1 St. X. History isnât on their side. Manual hasnât beaten the Tigers since 1993. St. X has won 19 in a row in this series, including a pair of routs (53-0 and 57-0) last year.
â¢SHELDON CLARK at BELFRY: Belfry ((5-2) hasnât lost three games in the regular season since 2001. Sheldon Clarkâs last win over the Pirates was in 2006.
â¢LAFAYETTE vs. BRYAN STATION (at Tates Creek): The Generals try to beat Bryan Station for the 9th year in a row. The Defenders need to get back on track after losses to Henry Clay and Scott County.
â¢HIGHLANDS at COVINGTON CATHOLIC (Saturday): The Bluebirds bombed CovCath 61-0 last year, the most lopsided game in the rivalryâs history. Two-time defending 5A titlist Highlands isnât about to have a letdown, not with a second undefeated championship in three years in sight.
â¢WEST JESSAMINE at BOYLE COUNTY: This is a battle of unbeaten 4A district rivals, but most people assume itâll be Boyle County in a blowout. The Rebels are rated No. 4 in the state; West Jessamine is No. 111.
â¢LONE OAK at HOPKINS CENTRAL: Lone Oakâs last big hurdle on the way to its second undefeated regular season in three years.
â¢MCCREARY CENTRAL at ROCKCASTLE COUNTY: McCreary Central is already assured of its first winning season ever. An upset of the Rockets would be an even bigger boost.
â¢PERRY CENTRAL at HARLAN COUNTY: Two of the contenders in a scrambled 5A district race try to get a big âW.â
â¢SIMON KENTON at BOONE COUNTY: Simon Kenton star Miles Simpson has rushed for 3,125 yards and 58 TDs in his last 22 games. Can the Rebels slow him down?
â¢TATES CREEK at CLARK COUNTY: If Clark County wins, it could be on its way to the district title and top seed in the playoffs.
