More details: Lexington Christian took a 22-point lead into halftime Friday night but had to hold off a two-point conversion attempt with 37 seconds for a 28-27 victory in Tennessee.
Behind a dominant performance by senior running back Domonique Hayden, the visiting Eagles led 28-6 over Christ Presbyterian Academy (Tenn.) after two quarters.
LCA’s six second-half possessions ended with three punts, two lost fumbles and a turnover on downs. Meanwhile, the CPA Lions scored 21 unanswered points, including a 4-yard touchdown with 39 seconds left to pull them within 28-27 pending the extra point.
Instead of kick an extra point to tie the game, the Lions attempted a two-point pass that came up short to give the Eagles a narrow escape.
Hayden ran 17 times for 172 yards and one touchdown. He also caught four balls for 44 yards.
LCA quarterback Lucas Witt was 11-for-21 for 164 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 39 yards and a touchdown.
