Proposal to change KY's Classes to 6 passes yesterday.
#1
Anyone else hear about this?
#2
I heard that they had thrown that option up for discussion, but hadn't heard about them passing it. I'm not sure if I like this new proposal. Seems to me like it's going to split up some good competition.
#3
It passed.

#5
and what will the districts look like??? they should be really small won't they

That's not set in stone...
#9
I think 4 teams from each district will go to playoffs.
#10
Well, This is interesting !!!
#11
I think the proposal was passed from a beginning committee. I think it has to go through about three more before it makes it to a final vote by board of controls.
The list of districts above is from a list that was compiled several years ago or at the last realignment. But it has to close in most aspects.
#12
Why such a big jump? I mean nothing is wrong with 4 classes...if anything only go to 5. Doesn't seem like a good move to me. Not to mention a lot of the districts only have 4 teams, so they would all make the playoffs? If this happens then I could see a reason for taking only 2 teams from each district.

But then again, that is old because some of the schools don't even exist anymore.
#13
I thought that Fleming Neon Consolidated with Letcher to become Letcher Cent. I dont see them in there and I thougt that Evarts, Cawood and Cumberland wee going together to become Harlan Central? Where will these teams be? 98 NCC whee did you find this info.?

If the allignment stays or is close as posted each district will range from 4 to 7 teams. In reality a team could go winless in district play if they are in a 4 team district and make the playoffs.
Looks like that would lead to a lot of first and maybe second round blowouts.
#15
i like it it gives a chance to 2 more teams to win state
#16
Need some changes in the system but I don't think 6 classes is the answer.
#17
I believe that is mostly the reason for all of this, is to give more teams a shot at a title or atleast move up in the playoffs. All in all it = more $$$$
#18
I dont like it, but who am i to say what i like or dislike.
#19
I think it is because of the differences in Class A and AAAA. In class A you can have school with 50 boys playing a school with 250 boys and be in the same class. In AAAA you can have a school with 600 boys playing a school that has 1800 boys. They are trying to even up the playing field in these areas.
#20
IMO it doesnt really change much in the mountains, all the big competition are still in the same districts, the only move that I can see is Ashland moving up.
#21
lets remember this is for the kids
95 percent of these kids will never play football again so why not give them a chance to win state or play more games
most teams play stricktly to make the playoffs so why not let them
more memories for more kids
#22
Wow....Im at a loss for words...this is definetly a huge change..i wonder if this will help more than it hurts

i agree

For starters, there needs to be some sort of differential between schools like beechwood and evarts. evarts and similar schools have an infintestimal mountain to climb. beechwood can pull football players from a nearly 2 million populous area. Its kind of a stacked deck, in all honesty.

The city of Ft. Mitchell which is where 97-98% of the student body of Beechwood comes from is about 3000-4000 people, maybe. So you're argument holds very little water.

What about Lexington Christian which can draw from all of Lexington. They are doing something to seperate the Evarts from the NCC's to the Highlands, they are making even more classes. What do you want? A class for every team? Evarts, I'm assuming is one of if not the smallest schools in the state, so no matter what class they were i nwould you be making this weak argument?
#27
How would South Floyd go to a AA school. I didn't think they had enough students. But Im not sure what the new limits are for a class. AA must be pretty low. Because South Floyd be lucky to have 300 students tops.
#28
And, 98 would this go into effect starting next year? Do you have any numbers on the class sizes for max number of students?

really now? allow me to retort. I used evarts and beechwood as an example, even stating as much. beechwoods continuum even comes from across the river. All i'm saying is that teams like LCA, like beechwood have a tremendous advantage over nearly all of the other single a schools. take a somerset team that has been dominant this year: they field i believe 28-ish players. not exact. beechwood, a "single a" team fields nearly a hundred boys, excluding freshmen.

I'm not sure, but my guess would be that it wouldn't go in effect til the '06 football season because that usually redo the alignments every 2 seasons and this is the first year under the new alignment. Of course this is still all dependent on actually passing all the needed boards and such that would allow this to take effect.
