RUMOR: Celtics/Pistons trade?
#1
What do you do when you have two former Kentucky Wildcats, both of whom have won NBA titles and one of which has a gold medal? Why trade them for each other of course? Reports come today that the Celtics are considering trading Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen for Tayshaun and Rip Hamilton within the next couple of days. The trade would be made for varying reasons for both teams, with the Celtics trying to gear up for another championship run and the Pistons trying to shed some cap space for 2010 and get a young superstar in the process.

As for the UK ties, much of the speculation surrounding the deal centers around Rajon Rondo and potential chemistry issues with the team. Just as when he was with Kentucky, there is speculation that Rondo is not the ideal teammate and that some of his “me first” attitude may have caused problems in the Boston locker room. For the Celtics, the possibility to add Tayshaun, always considered a great teammate, along with Rip Hamilton, allows them to get a bit younger at one position and a bit more help defensively at another. It will be interesting to watch how this develops and the effect on both player’s careers. Tayshaun can immediately be back on a championship contender and Rajon moved away from the role of point guard on a title team. Lots riding on these next couple of days….

This trade kind of makes sense to me, but who will be the pure point guard for the Celtics? This sounds like a better trade for the Detroit Pistons. They get a great point guard and shooting guard while keeping their great center (Rasheed Wallace).

Did they resign Sheed because I know he was a free agent?

I looked on ESPN.com and, as far as I can tell, he's still with the Detroit Pistons. I'm not really sure, though.

i dont think they have. this is what i fount on pistons mail bag

"Kathy (Coldwater, Mich.): Would there be any chance the Pistons could re-sign Rasheed Wallace and have him come off the bench instead of start? He is one of my favorite players and I would hate to see him go"

Langlois: It would be terrific to be able to replace both Wallace and Antonio McDyess with younger versions and bring the vets back to come off the bench, Kathy, but the reality of the salary cap doesn’t seem to allow for that possibility. Once the Pistons get under the cap, the money they have available to them will be used – either spent in free agency or acquired via trade – to add the pieces that can combine with Rodney Stuckey and a few of the other holdovers to form the young nucleus for the future. But getting under the cap means the Pistons cede their right to exercise the mid-level exception and that would be the tool they would use to bring back Wallace. So it’s a long shot that he’ll be back.

I looke for there to be a draft pick to be in the trade and that be the young superstar on the celtics and it be a PG....dont know just see that on espn, celtics likely to move up in the draft

Ridiculous..what r the Celtics thinking?

They might want to draft a point guard if Rondo is gone.

IDK THIS IS CRAZY, THE CELTICS HAVE GOT TO BE ON CRACK OR SOMETHING

I don't see the Pistons, making that trade... The Celtics need to try to get another draft pick. with it try to get something to fill in if KG or PP get hurt again next season. When KG got hurt Rondo step up. His number went up.

Why would the Pistons want Rando? Are they getting rid of Allen Iverson? With the contract that AI has, he is the starting PG and Rando would come off the bench. Neither are shooting guards, so you won't see these two on the floor at the same time.

I agree 100% Stardust, but if Rondo is getting like he did at UK about being selfish, then I don't know if Celtics can deal with him.

I agree with you, the Celt's are making a good decision, but I question the Pistons. The Pistons may well be looking to use this deal to make another, which could include either AI or Rajon.

AI to me doesn't have a lot of time left in his carrer. I also agree with you on the trade, but I think they don't need Rondo. Kendrick Perkins is a good one. I think they can send Rondo to another team that needs a point guard and they could get a lot of great talent.

i think the pistons need to get rid of AI and pull the trigger on the Rondo deal.
but im wondering why would the pistons would want to trade Prince and Hamilton?

I am surprised about Prince, but Rip has wanted out since last year when they started brining him off the bench.

i dont see them trading prince. my opinion prince is better than rondo. rondo is nothing but a ball hog. he's a tremendous player but a ball hog!

Rip was made into the 6th man when AI came to town. He has been dispeased ever since. As for comparing Prince and Rajon, it depends on what a team needs. Prince is not at Point Guard, so obviously Rajon is better if your need is a PG.

thanks for the info about rip. if i was a coach i would take prince over rondo. i do give rondo credit because he is one tremendous player, best pg in the nba but he's a ball hog. he dont know how to share! sports is about a team not 1 player

I would love to see Tayshaun out of Detroit, once Chauncey was gone for Allen Iverson, Tayshaun's talents were needed elsewhere.

What has the PPG been for Prince in the past three years?

Tayshauns point total has not been bad, but his use as a set-up guy was diminished, and that is where he shined brightest for the Pistons offense.
