Doing away with All Conference Awards
This is only going to take away from our kids

Floyd County will only get worse at the high school level if that happens.

This has to be the dumbest thing i've ever heard! Please do not do this.
05-22-2009, 12:36 AM
This will not happen. It was thrown out there but got very negative results. The county AD was asked to see what people thought about those changes.. There are not enough gyms to practice in if you combine boys and girls teams. The system will stay the same as it has in the past.

Please don't let this happen.

Hope you are right Colonel on this but they need to let the people know this
Who ever told him to throw it out there must not like him because he is not very well like now.
The kids work and play hard and they desire a County Tournament and awards. C-B and A-Team
I thought this is the reason they have tournament manger for is to get out and get the money from business for the awards.
They want take there money away they rather take from the kids.

"HE is not trying to undo anything". He was asked by some school officials to float this idea is all.
The problem for the schools is $$$$$$ the host school is responsible for paying for ALL trophies that year. All sports included. Those bills can total close to 10,000 after all tournaments are held. The schools usually dont get sponsors for the trophies. That is not an inflated number either. I know this for a FACT....

The football awards should come out of the football gates from each school that has football not girls basketball tournament gate.
Yes It's all about money not kids in mind here you got that right.
I love to see what some people was paid .

What happens is one school gets a turn each season to host all county tourneys.
That school must pay for all trophies from girls and boys basketball (a,b & c teams) Football A, B & C teams, Volleyball (a,b & c teams) as well as all-conference teams players of the year awards (that somehow are ending up in 3-4 way ties in some instances) coaches of the year and dance and cheerleading awards. GPA award etc, etc, etc .... It really adds up .....

I understand now, I thought you was just meaning basketball.
That is too much.

Well gosh that is pretty dumb to stick one school with everything each year(no wonder those "men" want to shuck it all...LOL...) rotation would be ideal (and not too hard even if people aren't that bright) and why not have sponsors for trophies. They've put sponsorships on everything else... Why not have cheer apart from the tournament in a competition type deal. Every squad comes in and competes a 2min 15 sec routine... charge admission, sell tee shirts with sponsors on them, sell concessions, sell whatever you want.. get trophies donated and pay the judges from the gate.... duh... then announce results @ the tournament finals during halftime... include dance if you really want to kill 2 bbirds with 1 stone.... this eliminates alot of stress and actually will produce income.... as for academic awards... let the academic teams and so forth cover their own deal... i bet there'll be a "line" for that one... and one last question... WHO IS THE "HE" YOU MENTIONED, who was "floating" this idea and why on Earth would "he" float such an unpopular proposal when "he" surely knows how it will make "him" appear to the general public?

All these ideas aren't bad if you know the whole plan. The host school will have the B and C tourneys at their school and the A tournament will be held at one of the High schools. Each tournament will be held in different weeks so that each division will get the focus. This past season the tournaments took about two weeks to play, which took away ACHS gym from their boys and girls teams. As for the trophies we go overboard, this is not a perfect plan but what we are doing isn't either.

Are they going to change this or not need to let people know so we will know what to do about taking are kids somewhere esle. I talk with our girls coach last night and he is not going to be able to coach if they change it and if he leave my kids are going some where esle for sure. He is a great coach and does so much for the school and the kids this will be a big lost to ACMS And I had him talked in helping the high school again, him and Tiffany really work good together. He also told me that he did not support any of these ideals.

I still find it hard to imagine that they are spending $10,000.00 on trophies. I know a few years back Allen Grade School opted to not host the county tournaments for the year - they said they didn't have enough support to take care of it. Adams and ACMS both wanted to have it, but it ended up going to McDowell. If it was such an expense- then why would 3 different schools try so hard to host it.
ACMS hosted the tournaments this year- and there were cars parked all along Route 80. They had bigger crowds there than ACHS saw all season. When McDowell hosted it a few years ago- they played at SFHS and had to shuttle the fans from the football field to the gym because of the crowds.

It is true ....... Sad but true !!!
That is true about the crowds at the boys basketball, but the county did away with the football playoff and the girls volleyball tournament crowds were zero ! Girls basketball didn't draw a very big crowd either. I am not in favor of the change myself, I was just trying to pass along some helpful info.

Well Mr. Henry are you going to changes this or not we as parents desire to know something, guess we parents need to start calling Mr. Webb for the answer.

The two seasons WILL NOT be combined ........
Staying the same

Some helpful information on this topic. The county AD will not make the decision to do anything. The district athletic handbook is revised every year by committee. The committee this year was made up of coaches, athletic directors, principals, and cheer coaches. They made revisions to the handbook after recieving input from other coaches, ADs, and principals. During the first committee meeting the district AD was asked to gather information about proposed changes. The committe met again to discuss those proposeals for revision. Those revisions will be voted on by the Board of Education. From the information that I have the girls and boys seasons will stay the way they are now. The C-team and B-team tournaments will be played sometime before the A-team tournament. There was some concern about children getting home during the tournament at or after 11:00 PM this and in other years. I'm sure that there will be an All-Tournament team for our KIDS so they will recieve a trophy for their hard work and efforts durning the tournament.

Another change that the county needs is recruiting.
Calling other kids. Filling their heads up with crap. Going out of county to get kids. Promising them, this and that. Shoot all they want, etc. We're going to be a High School soon, which would only help you out if you come here and so on.
It reallys needs to be looked into. Other kids are tranferring as a result of this. Either because of loss of playing time or always being the workhorse that get's no credit.
