15th Region in 2006
#1
Last season the 15th was hit hard by graduation. Pikeville lost roughly 7 starters, but return some valuable pitching.
Paintsville lost LeMaster, Hess, Young 1 & Young 2, and Hensley. They may have some trouble enext season after losing those players, but they do return Grimm, VanHoose, Williams, Sublett, and Brown.
Losing Horn, Jarrett, and Howell won't hurt the Cardinals as much as people think. May is an excellent all around athlete, and Harless and Lafferty are good defensively at third base and shortstop.
Allen Central lost only 2 players from last season in Wilfredo Dominguez and Ryan Hammonds. Those two players were leaders on and off the field, but I feel Coach Ken Johnson returns enough talent and experience to make a run for AC's 2nd Regional Title in the last 4 years. Scottie Little and Tyler Turner will once again lead the pitching attack and Nick Music, Brock Kidd, and Justin Jacobs will head a talented group of Rebels offensively and defensively.
Matt Fyffe, IMO, will be the best all around player on the Johnson Central squad in 2006. Justin Blanton will be a good compliment on the mound to Fyffe, and Plummer will provide offense as well as a solid glove defensively.

I watched the majority of the 15th region teams play last year. However, Magoffin was one I did not see. If you lost only 2 seniors and had a strong team -- you should do well.

Good Luck Hornets.

Strikeoutking- according to your earlier post AC should have a great 06 season. What does AC have coming up in the ranks? Looks like after 06 they will be losing the core of their team. Who do they have to fill the shoes of Kidd, Jacobs, Turner, Music and the rest of the 06 graduates?

AC will lose a large majority of their team after the '06 season. They will lose the following key players:
Tyler Turner - pitcher, third base, shortstop
Brock Kidd - catcher, pitcher
Nick Music - shortstop, outfield, pitcher
Justin Jacobs - second base, cather
Josh McKinney - third base, first base, pitcher
There are a few other seniors this upcoming season, but these are the ones who will really make an impact, IMO. These kids have played together since they could pick up a bat. The team chemistry is unbelievable and the talent level is far better than most people think. They will determine how far the Rebels go in 2006.

I hate to do this, because for some reason Magoffin County is a sensitive subject for some right now, but I feel like I need to put things in perspective about last years big winning season which was actually 12-9...

One win over a team with a winning record which was Prestonsburg(1st game of the season)

4 wins on the season came against Elliot County who finished 1-22
2 more wins came agasint Riverside Christian who finished 0-4
4 more wins came agasinst South Floyd who went 3-22
the other huge win was against Wolfe who went 6-11

12 wins against 5 different teams...10 wins came against three teams who combined for a 4-48 record....Take away the Prestonsburg win and the record of opponents they beat was 10-59...Even with the Prestonsburg win it's 27-70....

Ol Alf...always there to put it in perspective Smile

Yeah, anyone with a 1-22 record

I agree with Alfus...the competition should be taken into account when measuring the program for a winning season. I wish the Hornets nothing but the best and hope they comepte for the region title every year but with the breakdwon that Alfus posted it shows how far Magoffin still has to go to be a competitive team in the 57th district and 15th region despite the first winning season in 30 years. Despite that though a winning season is a step in the right direction and I hope they get it turned around.

Has Magoffin even beaten a 57th district team in the last ten years?

the closeest we came was holding JC to a 6 to 3 game at the end of the 7th for them being a great team and all our players really young that was almost good anuff as a win....

Sorry Hornetfan07 but unless I'm mistaken Alfus roots for Shelby Valley, so you didn't defeat his team last year. Magoffin defeated Prestonburg(17-11 record), Elliott County four times(1-22 record),Riverside Christian twice(0-4 record), South Floyd four times(3-22), and Wolfe County once(6-11-1 record). How in the world could anybody get on here and trash talk with that schedule?

JC defeated Magoffin 6-0 last year not 6-3 on April 19th at Ramey park.

Landon Slone?

Every new season in any sport that rolls around someone makes a statement that Landon Slone will be playing in it. And every new season that rolls around ol Landon finds out that he aint the star in that sport and ends up not playing. He found out that he is not a baseball player, just as he found out he dont have the guts to play football.:lmao:
#28
Pburg and Allen Cent will be top contenders this year.!!
#29
SF should be good
#30
no Justin Slone, the lafferty kid and Tj Hall should do good...NOT SOUTH FLOYD.....Go Rebs
