As bad as I hate to admit it, when you mention top coaches, Pitino has to be included. I would add him to your list as #6.

OK, here is a different way to look at this question. What coaches win, without sending players to the next level. It is a cakewalk to coach at Duke, UNC, UK, UCLA, Memphis, Florida, Kansas etc... when you load up with bluechippers every year. How can you not win and be considered a great coach. I could be a great coach if I had the recruits that these schools get Wink

Coach K is still probably at the top of the list. I think you could put him at just about any program in the country and he would be successful. But it's not hard to be a strategist when you have the athletes that can do anything that you ask of them.

Well regardless of how bad people want to really admit it Tubby Smith has proven the "coaching" aspect he is one of the best. Maybe not in the recruiting area, but when it comes to coaching he is among the best. I think the last two coaches that have coached at UK before Gillesppie got there are among the best with Pitino and Tubby.

I agree. I don't think people in Kentucky really appreciate how good of a basketball coach Tubby Smith is.

Although I do not personally like Tubby's offensive style, he is a great defensive coach and a disciplinarian (sp) that wins. He CANNOT recruit and it seems that he will not get an assistant coach that can recruit, at least not while he was at Georgia or UK.

Tubby Smith is an excellent coach, and knows the game VERY WELL. He may not have been the best recruiter, but look what he always did with what talent he had. Im not a Billy G hater by no means, I like billy g. But when we had Tubby, did we lose to VMI, Gardner Webb, San diego State... no. But I have faith in Billy, I say give him a couple of years.

Under Tubby, UK did not lose to teams that should should not have lost to. They would beat the Gardiner Webbs and VMI's on their November/December Schedule

The best after that would probably have to be Ben Howland, Jim Boeheim,Tom Izzo, and Calipari.

If Thad Matta could coach Ohio State would be # 1 every year because he always seems to get at least 2 recruits in the top 25.
