It is extremely early to predict but since there were already posts in another thread, based on last season and who each team will be returning, as of now who will be the teams to watch in '09?

This year should be even, almost every 15th Region team lost their Senior Captains. IMO Belfry will still be a top contender but could get upset trying to 3-peat
In no particular order, just players they will be losing. It is far too early to do predictions and rankings.
Belfry - The loss of Paige Thacker will hurt the team a lot but they have been the best in the region for years. Question is, did a lot of that have to do with her alone?
Betsy Layne - Lost a lot of leadership but should return a talented young group.
East Ridge - Will graduate 5 this year so a huge chunk of their Varsity players will be gone. 3 juniors in Brianna Bentley, Beth Anders, and Makala Slone to step up, Emily Epling will only be a sophomore and I've said in previous threads that she will be one to watch. The season should be pulled together nicely, ending up probably somewhere in the upper-middle portion of the region.
Pike County Central - Graduates 4 I believe but has a huge roster so they should be able to fill the gap.
Allen Central - 8 seniors on the team so basically half of their players will be gone, should be a rebuilding year for these girls.
Phelps - Set to loss some of the best players on their team, will have one junior to return as a senior.
Shelby Valley - Graduates more than anyone in the region I do believe.
Pikeville - Down 1 senior. VERY young team returning. Watch out for Annie Carter to step up her game and Sierra Little will only be a junior so she has more years ahead of her. Should be a huge season for the Panthers.

I agree that Belfry will be a top contender, but if I'm not mistaken, they will be going for their 8th consecutive trip to the states. '02, '03, '04, '05, '06, '07, '08

Betsy Layne will lose three seniors...IMO their best player Andy Meade. However they return a very talented team along.
Johnson Central returns a strong front line.
Belfry loses two seniors in Paige Thacker and Katie Hubbard. They also had a 5'10" starter who was injured during the regional tournament. Must find setter.
Pikeville will be very strong. They just lose Christina Johnson.
South Floyd could be a sleeper team to beat. They return everyone including Bailey Hamilton and Ashley their setter.
Allen Central will always be competitive under Coach Maynard.
East Ridge and Coach Spradlin also work very hard.
These six are the contenders and the ones with the best chance of winning a region.

Andie Meade...#10 I think and one more. The last two were used on the backrow. Andie was a very good player and the leader of their team...played extremely hard.

JC lost 5 seniors, unsure of how great a contender that will make them. They lost experience and leadership. They could use some new leadership in my opinion.

I think that Pikeville, Belfry, Betsy Layne and Johnson Central will be the teams to watch next year. All have good solid programs.

imo, betsy layne, south floyd, & pikeville should be strong this year..
also, belfry & allen central should have some top teams, like always.
the 54th district should be the strongest in the region this year, just like last year..

south floyd will have a strong team this year, only losing a couple of starters.. ashley castle is a great hustler, and will be a great leader for their team. Bailey Hamilton will improve on her blocking, and the left handed girl is a great hitter.
Allen central loses alot of leadership out of Hoagie hodge. They're graduating 7 or 8 girls who have played there for years. Leigh Williams will come back as a starting setter. I expect alot of big things from the other hodge girl. #9 will be back as well, she was a good hitter and should have got more playing time IMO.
Betsy Layne, along with AC loses alot of leadership out of their seniors and will be looking for someone to step into that role next year. Im looking for #10 to play into that role well. They will have two middles back who have improved alot, and the little meade girl who played alot of back row last year. Expecting big things out of her in years to come.
Belfry graduates their mvp of the past 3 or 4 years this year in paige thacker. Im not sure if they graduate anyone else but they will still have a team to make some noise. The megan girl, outside hitter, is a very good attacker. Rick Mounts will have those girls ready to play.
With pikeville only graduating one girl from this year, they will also be very experienced. They have a very good middle coming back, i think she is a sophomore, and also the sierra little girl, who has a very nice serve and a good attack.
I'm not really sure about any of the other teams but I'm looking forward to seeing what will be coming out of the 15th region this 2009 season

well breathitt had a real good freshman team losing only 1 or 2 games all year so i think i f not next year the year after they oughta be real good.

Pikeville will fight in the Regional Tournament, but they won't be Regional Champions this year. They're too young.
Belfry won't be as good as they used to be. (The loss of their best player)
I have Johnson Central winning, but it's debatable.

JC will be in a rebuilding season. They lost several key players.

I don't understand why JC would be in a rebuilding season. If anyone was in a rebuilding season, it would be Belfry. They'll only have 2 seniors and 2 juniors next year. JC did lose 5 really good players, but they will still have 3 seniors and 5 juniors for next year.

Belfry only lost Thacker and one other senior. Next season will hardly be considered a rebuilding season. Thacker was great don't get me wrong....but she wasn't the whole team.
As for teams that will need rebuilding: Shelby Valley, Allen Central, Phelps, and possibly East Ridge. They all lost many key players.

South Floyd is one of my favorite V-ball teams in the Mtns. Next to of course those Cougars from Letcher Central. They should once again bring home the 14th region crown! However I do think they could have a harder go at it seeing as they lost IMO the best setter and two best hitter's in the region. Abbie Adams was the leader of the the cougars, should be interesting to see if anyone steps up to feel those big shoes.

Dickie done a great job there this year after replacing Betty. Your right about the setter also...much harder to replace a setter.

Sierra Little is a great player, but she is not consistent. One night she will have an amazing game, the next night she will just be average, and then the next night she will completely lose control.
Pikeville is a newer team but they are making there way to the top. There are two younger girls who can step up and take the empty spot. That would be Molly Bates and Madison Tackett. Tia Pettigrew will be a great player too as a sub.

I may not be correct, however, I heard from a friend that the junior from phelps will not be playing her senior year!
