For your information the fiscal court of Martin County has put up a total of $650,000 for this project and the scoreboard was a donation from Pepsi. I agree with you about the test scores but what needs to be done is rid the school of some of the teachers and the superintendent. Our kids have needed this for many years and it took the county to see that its finally getting done.

This is Tiger Turf, the only other field in the state with this grade of turf is U of L.

I cheer for SC 9 weeks out of the year (needless to say not when playing belfry) and I couldn't be happier for Coach Hager and the whole community on this project. Sheldon Clark has a team that always gives it 110% for Martin County, and I'm glad to see the county do the same for these great kids.

Look for this program to just get better with the new turf.

Just wanted to comment on this.... I agree that some of the old teachers that dont want to change anything to help the students should go, but since we have got our new superintendent our kids in Martin County have gotten more books, more equipment, cleaner schools, and more renovations to our schools than they have ever gotten. Do you think the Pike County Board of ED paid for Belfrys field??? NO, school districts can not afford such things as this. Belfrys field was paid for by a coal mines. Our field was paid for by coal severence taxes! Great job by our county officials and to our superentendent.

Great looking transformation. Those kids deserved that field. It was horrible in the past. Good for Martin Co. and Martin Co. BOE!

Will the game be played there tonight?

Nice

things are coming along great as one of the red enzones was laid today. The game tonight will be pplayed at Lawrence County and then next week the Cards go to East Ridge and counting the two pre - season scrimmages will make six straight road games and now I hear that the 26th game with Magoffin County will be moved to that Saturday afternoon due to the light situation. The county should have been the ones to order the lights because it would already be done but having to wait on our BOE to do something right is like waiting on Xmas but alt least the turf is going down. Thanks Martin County fiscal court

It sure looks good, and SheldonClark really deserves it. I've never heard of Tiger Turf, what other fields have it? Anybody in Kentucky?
I think you're mistaken about U of L. Papa Johns has FieldTurf, the same thing Belfry has.

According to Sportsfield in Lexington this is Monofield Tiger Turf, its real thread of turf, not split plastic the the Belfry and JC Field, according the installer Chris "its impossible to get a turf burn from the kind" I know it was a $ 20,000 upgrade from the other type.

I am proud that the Cards are getting a new field... What's it name? I mean it can't be the rock no more
09-15-2008, 12:06 AM

I think it is awesome that high school players in the mountians are beginning to get the facilities that the big schools across the state have played on for years.

I have already named it "The Rubber" in a couple of other posts.
