Breathitt County vs. Boyd County - Sept. 12
#1
What is your predictions on this game? I see Breathitt getting their first win of the season which is very odd to say in week 3.
#2
This will be a very hungry Bobcat team coming into this one. I expect Fugate to have another huge game and I predict the Bobcats to win this one by 2+ touchdowns!
#3
Boyd County is not bad. The Lions hang in but Breathitt ends up winning by a couple of TDs.

Breathitt County gets off the couch this week with a close win over Boyd County. This Boyd county team gave Russell a good game and got wore down in the end. I have to take Breathitt if this past weeks loss isn’t too much ingrained in their heads. They must keep their heads up or this Boyd County Team will get the win. I on the other hand see a rebound by the bobcats in a close game.

Breathitt in a close one

Boyd Co in a close one.

If Boyd Co hadn't had a couple breaks go against them the other night Russell would have been 1-1. They had 100 plus yards more offense than Russell and 19 1st downs against the Devils.

Breathitt Co starts out 2008 with an 0-3 record.

I think the Bobcats will pull out the win.

I'm sorry but have you lost your mind my friend. Boyd County did not have 100 plus more yards of offense the other night. They did have more first downs but that is because Russell kept scoring TDs. Russell had just as many break downs. Bad snaps set Boyd up for a possible TD at the end of the half and cost them a field goal.

Boyd is a pretty good team as long as Wilson stays healthy. Without him they go nowhere. The Lions really did about all they could do the other night. But that game was never in doubt.

Here are the stats from the Boyd County/Russell game. Please notice it took Boyd County 24 more offensive plays to gain 2 more yards than Russell. Also Russell never even attempted a pass in the second half. They were content with running the clock. Also most of Boyds passing yards came in the 3rd and 4th quarters on the underneath stuff when Russell was sitting back.

Scoring Summary:
1st 10:19 RUSSELL - Drew Abrams 2 yd run (Jason Dolly kick), 5-68 1:41, BC 0 - RUSSELL 7

I was thinking th paper said BC had 400yds on the ground. Maybe not but I'm thinking thats what the Independent said.

After hearing all the arguments I will take Breathitt because they will be wanting to win the game more than Boyd county.
#22
I used to watch Breathitt and saw that they ran out of many different formations, keeping the defense off balance, but now I only see a couple formations and teams are catching on to the routes and angles. I think Breathitt has the talent to be a better team, but they need to go back and review what got them the titles and use that play calling and multiple formations.

I think that Breathitt County needs to run the ball out of the wishbone, jet, split backs, or something because they have all the mechanics to become a very good smashmouth football team rather than a team that runs the Utah Spread. I believe that running out of those formation would favor Jade's style of play with his speed and arm strength.

The one thing that made Breathitt so hard to prepare for was that they were different than other teams in EKY as far as offensive play calling. Many of the teams in EKY are now adapting and using the Breathitt style of offense and it is helping the defenses....I do not know what needs to happen, but I hate hearing that the players did not even seem upset when they messed up and did not really encourage each other....Played like they were emotionless from what I was told.

The spread IMO, is to hard for high school teams to run. If you take your 3 most athletic players and put them in the backfield like they do at Belfry, then your going to have success especially with a big line like Breathitt County's.

The running system that Belfry uses is easy to learn and execute consistently even without the elite athletes. The thing about Breathitt's system is that it is inconsistent st times. I agree with you that it is easier to learn a system like Belfry's.... In Breathitt county the kids start learning the system in Middle school if not before and they know it by the time they get to high school. It is still early and Breathitt still has time to get things ironed out, and I think they will be a dangerous team in the playoffs. Do I think they will win it all, no......But I do think that any team that plays them better bring their A+ game. There is one fact and that is that Breathitt has changed its play-calling and is less aggressive.

You're right, but I think the main purpose behind running the spread is create space in the middle by forcing the defense's best athletes wide to cover the short passing game.

It puts a TON of pressure on the 1 or 2 LB's that have to spot the middle of the field. And...those LB's don't have a chance if the d-linemen don't occupy all the blockers.

Still, BC is by no means an undersized team. There's plenty of beef to run a power game and an obviously talented RB with good size and speed. Haddix has very nice foot speed, also.

I think I'd put Fugate in a simple "I" and let him find holes letting Jade fake and rollout every now and then to keep the defense from stacking inside. BC usually has good speed at WR - the simple "I" lets them keep two wideouts and a TE in a base formation.

The one thing that gives me hope is that Breathitt struggled with inconsistency in 2001, Justin Haddix's junior year and 1st year as a starter. They came back and won the title in 2002 and Justin set several passing records. Jade Haddix is just a junior, and so is Channing Fugate, so I think they may be very strong next season, or later this season depending on how long it takes Jade to adjust to the QB1 spot.

I think Boyd has a chance in this one. They are going to have to do better against the run D. Of course they could likely have a let down week and Breathitt is due for a good week. I don't think Breathitt will score as easily as Russell, so they better find a way to stop Wilson.
#30
gonna take another shot here, leaving myself wide open, but really think that as far as talent goes and if they get on track this week. breathitt wins by 28 or more. and if the playcalling was like last week. breathitt loses by 14.
