Letcher County Central 67 - Greenup Co. 6
#1
Final from letcher Central. Set a school scoring record and played a nasty defense. 496 total yards offense. 1st team offense only played 1 possession in second half.Young " Cougars" played as well as their teammates. Chase Adams returns a kickoff for 75 yards and Travis Stephens has a 55 yard run from scrimmage. Banks and Logan Johnson combined for 220 yds.passing and 80 yds.rushing and had 5 passes.

I don't know anything about LCC...but this is surprising given Greenup's good showing in the playoffs at the end of last season. I thought they might build off of that. I thought wrong.
#3
Boooya baby!!!! We still got to work on that defense though. We can not have teams putting up six points on us and expect to win in the post season.
#4
LCC dominated. I actually went to see if the defense would give up more points than they did last week against Harlan Co. Boy was I wrong. I knew the offense could put points up in a hurry but Coach Thomas had his Defense playing better than it has in the previous three or four years combined. I knew the old coach still had it in him and it looks like he finally has the boys buying into what he has been preaching for the last year and a half. Good job boys, keep working hard and even better things will come.

Congratulations LCC... keep it up and keep building the program into a true mountain powerhouse.

Congrats LCC

WOW... just wow...Greenup must have still been recovering from the beating last week against Russell.

This game could have been a 100-6..Played really solid last night, too many names to mention..One part of the game that needs to be improved on is tackling by LCC. Too many second, third and fourth chance opportunities. The season is young and they will only get better. Logan Johnson comes off of the bench and goes 3-3 with 2 T.D.'s. And no it wasn't running up the score because one pass was a shuffle pass and the other pass was a snap over his head , with Logan rocovering it and hitting freshman W.R. Corey Dollarhide for a T.D. So Congrats Cougars and get ready for the Dores next week!

This is the third time Greenup has had a pounding already this year. 3 times if you count the scrimage against Ironton.

I thought GC would be better than that.Of course it is early.

Thats two games and two teams that could have scored as much as they wanted to against Greenup County. Looks like its going to be a long year for the musketeers.

Greenup Countys play on the line of scrimmage was terrible the first game and sounds like it was just as bad in this one.

Hey D10,
Yep they need more work for sure. But you have to admit that this was the best effort you have ever seen from our Cougars. I think we have a bunch of boys on defense that thinks they are better than what they really are individually. They played as a team and you saw the results. Must do away with the ME mentalities and get the TEAM mentality.

I am very suprised to see this outcome. I did not see this score at all. Was Greenup down on offense real bad or did LCC make some serious adjustments. Either way it is what it is and i hope LCC puts this kind of hurt on PCC. If they can hold them down on the points and keep it under 12 then i will be convinced that the defense has taken one small step in the right direction.

Congrats Letcher.

I'm a little confused here, I don't think the defense has ever not played together..........sometimes they play better together than other times. Agreed they can still use some work getting the kinks out. Really don't know what/who you mean by the ME mentalities........I've known these kids for years and have never seen or heard any of them not give their teammates credit for playing as a TEAM.

Falcon,
Not saying they are bad kids, I've also know them since they played Pee-wee ball and I am very close to several of them. I know they give credit and I know they are playing really hard all the time. I am saying that I just don't think they have ever really bought into the idea that defense wins games. I think some of them are just going through the motions at times so than can get on offense. You know the old saying or at least I hope you do. Offense wins the games your supposed to win but defense wins the games your not supposed to win. I am tickled that they have showed so much improvement and by all means I hope it continues but I do feel that the kids have not put as much emphasis on that side of the ball. I would be that you agree with me if you have watched them the past two or three years, if not you haven't been watching the same team that I have been watching. There is no way you can believe that they are just poor defensive players, I know our kids have much more ability than they have shown in the past on that side of the ball. Think back to just one year ago, do you think Hazard's offense was that much better than our offense, how about Clay County, shoot how about Harlan County one week ago. You know their athletes were not that much more talented than our kids, even their fans were surprised that they hung 30+ points on us in their first game. Definitely not bashing our kids, just hoping that they take defense a little more serious than they have in the past. Remember our last game of the season, yes they were much more experienced and probably a little more talented but you saw that we can put points on the board even on a team that good but we were way behind that end of the state as far as defense goes. We need more weightroom participation, I know for a fact that several of those boys that start on defense refuse to work-out in the weightroom, are you telling that this is positive and shows great dedication to play on the defensive side of the ball, I think not. I do think you mis-understood my intentions of the previous post, I support and wish them best of luck each time on the field but I do think they could spend a little more time listening to the defensive coaches instead of just hoping defensive practice ends so they can cross over and do the fun stuff on offense. You would have to admit to yourself and everyone else that you realize that our defense is far behind our offense and the only way to fix that is to come together as a unit and put in those extra hours to catch up with the other side of the ball. I do respect your opinion and hope you now realize that I am a true fan of those Cougar boys and only want them to outwork everyone else in the state to prove what we already know (We have just as good as athletes as anywhere else in the state).

How bout that LCC cougar squad showing the State 1 team at a time...

just don't let it go to your head guys. This season is a long way from being off. Thought that logan should have gotten in sooner.

CougarPride08,
Come on, let's not rush the kid in to quickly. He's coming off a broken leg and I think that Charlie Banks was pushed into varsity action to quickly a few years ago, you could ask him and he'd agree. Let Logan come along slowly and not throw him to the dawgs just yet, remember there's a big difference in 15 year olds and 19 year olds. Logan is a great talent and the state will find that out soon enough. I think the Howard's learned that lesson with Charlie and they are going to guide Logan along a little bit more wisely because of it.

Charlie's just 17 Lambert#1 but your point is well taken. He almost quit football his freshman year because of "being thrown to the dawgs". Thank goodness Ben Howard came aboard and eased him into the role during his sophomore year. I have no doubt that the "Maturing" process that Ben nutured Charlie through contributed to his successful season last year. Logan will be a great one and I know that Coach Ben will see tyo it. GOOD LUCK COUGARS

Windsprint,
No problem buddy, I was referring to the 19 year olds that would be taking shots at Logan who is 15 just like they did when Charlie was 15. However, I look back at my post and I can see where it would sound like I was saying Charlie was 19. You got my point though and that was Logan should stay at the Fresh. and J.V. level this year and kind of stay in that safe zone for a little while. I like him playing defense right now and he would be a heck of a wide-out/Target for Charlie to throw to because he has a heck of a set of hands and knows what to do when he has the ball in his hands.
#22
Logan will get quite a few reps at qb also. I look for Charlie to play a little tight end somewhere along the line this year and I look for Logan to play a little wide reciever also. These two have several positions that they can play and it gives some awesome wrinkles to an already potent offense. These two are good friends and will help each other get better

What I was refering to was the fact that at half it was 41-6. We had the game won, and we still kept Charlie in there. There was no need for it. Ask Ohio St how they felt when there star player got hurt. When you have a game like that you should have eased off. If they would have scored two more touchdowns what big deal would it have been.

I played Charlie one series in the second half.
