Johnson Central 26 - Breathitt County 14
#1
Final. Pretty much expected IMO.

JC's O-Line dominated this one..... just as expected. Both teams suffered with cramps all night though.... Good luck to the Eagles next week against St. Thomas Moore!

Yep the JC line pretty much had their way with the BC defense. Seems like the same area of concern for the Bobcats, a defense that gets pushed around.

While they may have been pushed around, we must realize that JC is a good 5A team, not an average one. They are big and strong and will compete with anyone in 5A. That being said, Breathitt will learn from this game and will improve. No big deal losing to JC................

The running back for BC Shannon Fuget is good. The WYMT man said he has major ups on the basketball court. he is getting recruited by Clemson and other ACC schools.good athlete

This is about what I expected. Johnson Central will do very good this season in 5A, they probably won't be able to play with John Hardin, Highlands, or Covington Catholic but they'll be able to compete with everyone else.

Congrats Eagles!

Excellent win for JC tonight but they bobcats should not hang there head because like BrahmaBull said they are a very good 5A team. But the road does not get any easier for Breathitt with a very good Prestonsburg team coming up next week so they could go down 0-2 or be 1-1 so i can't wait to see.
#11
Not so sure BC will go down to the burg so easy. From the looks of the size of the D for BC, if they know anything about FB they should be able to hold a team like P-burg. But anymore the size "and" knowhow is what counts. Will be an interesting game.

congrats golden eagles

JC really didn't impress me tonight! Ppl keep talking about how they are gonna be a very good 5A team but imo if they keep fumbling like they did tonight they are gonna run into some problems. I know its only the first game but great teams don't make those mistakes. Also, JC's pass defense wasn't all that great either! BC dropped many wide open passes and got in behind JC's defense a few times. I'm sure the coaches aren't as happy as many on here are though.

Congrats Central. I am not shocked..

Great win Johnson Central on a good BC team. I look for JC to improve each and every week and will represent Eastern Kentucky well this year. The Bobcats need to remain focused. It is early in the year and many great games will come their way as well this year. I wish well to both teams on a great year of Eastern Kentucky football. Big Grin

JC's O-Line dominated. Very good running attack. But, I didn't see any passing game . This could hurt them against a better team. On the flip side, Breathitt's QB missed receivers all night and looked to be a little gun-shy when running the ball. Fugate's a horse, but was keyed on all night long. Tough opening game for both schools.

Why would Central even need to think about going to the air, when you can bulldoze over and wear your opponent down on the ground all night long, at will?

What happened to that 28 Breathitt was going to lay on JC?

The score really doesn't do this game justice. JC drove the ball at will. There are many areas that they need to improve, but played a nice game. If not for the 2 fumbles inside the 10 by JC, the score could have been much worse . I was impressed with Breathitt though. They are a very good 3A team. Better than I was giving them credit for going into the game. Fugate is a big, strong kid that could break tackles. They will make alot of noise in the playoffs.

From what I hear they would have scored more if they could catch the ball.......

The caption in the Lexington Hearald Leader said that JC upset Breathitt.

That shows how much the media knows. Its no wonder rankings are always screwed up. Any one that thought anything but a Breathitt County win was an upset needs to have their head examined.

Also. JC fumbled. Breathitt dropped passes. Get over it. Its football. Both teams made mistakes and the better team one.

Common LHL and Mike Fields, surely you know more about football around the state than what it appears.

I thought JC played pretty good with all things considering. Offensively they just ran it down BC's throats and defensively they played pretty good also for the most part. Probably the biggest thing that hurt JC was missed tackles. There were too many times when a "kill shot" or trying to tackle without wrapping their arms that lead to a big play. Also, I thought the defensive backs played better than what some people give them credit for. Breathitt is a good football team that spreads it out and has a good chance to go a long way this year...there was confusion on some crossing routes here or there, but the passing game for them was nonexistant until the middle of the 3rd quater. I think the cramps in the secondary hurt their pass defense more than anything, if any of you all know, it's difficult to plant and drive through the receivers up-field shoulder when your calves/quads are in cramps. All-in-all though the main thing is that JC won, take the good with the bad and learn from mistakes and improve each week.

I agree. They ran off tackle on night long and just flat out wore BC out. When you have as many big strong backs as JC has. Why not keep running them in and out and just keep pounding the other team to death. Which JC did. BC did make some adjustments in the second half though and slowed JC down a little. I was actually glad to see BC score the two times though. I wanted to see how JC would react. JC did what they needed to do after the scores. They tighten their chin straps and just hit BC in the mouth again. Good job JC. By they way Fugate is a baller. Great game to watch in front of a packed house.

You must be obvlivious to the fact that BC was a state semi-finalist last year? Their team is far from average. That being said, I had two things that caught my eye last night:

1. The incredible running game of JC. I am still at a loss for words at how amazing they are doing for a first game when it comes to gaining yards through their running game. I can't wait for future games and see how Dillon, Richardson, and Bratton do. BC is a ranked team and can play great ball, and with the offensive line making great blocks, it was quite easy for the three in the backfield to make great yards. Congratulations to Matney on a great offensive line and backfield.

2. The defensive line. I am amazed at how physical JC's Defensive line is this year. I honestly do believe, considering this is the first game, that the D-line is the best JC has ever had. Size and speed. 330 pound Wolford just had me at a loss for words last night, as he showed that he wants to play. He physically plowed down that center every play, rushing the QB many times. His strength and ability to play the field will be a major advantage to the Eagles in future games. Although his speed may not be as great as the tackles, you can't be shocked due to his weight. His speed for his size is amazing, considering. Alongside Wolford would also be Harlow and Brown. Harlow looked impressive last night as well, and showed that half a year of being ineligible didnt slow him down any. I look for a great year for Harlow. His speed impressed me for his size as well. Brown also had a great game last night. He also showed that a whole year of being ineligible wouldnt stop him from helping JC defensively. The trio of Harlow, Wolford, and Brown keeps me at a loss for words, and their physical playstyle keeps me optimistic when I think about future games against teams such as Belfry. I don't think any team can effectively run against the Defensive Trio. JC has exactly what the D-line needs. Solid Strength and power in the middle, and speed on the outside. Considering the line played a team full of quick passes and bomb passes, they fared well, incredibly well actually.

This year will be quite exceptional for the Eagles, and I can't wait for the outcome. Goodluck Eagles and great game played!

Quite interesting that you say this. Considering that JC fumbled the ball within 10 yards of the Goal...twice...The score would have been worse against BC. Both teams played well, I wish them both luck in the future.

Chase Richardson played 1 heck of a game last night. BC got back into the game when they started to run the ball opposite where Chase lined up in the 2nd half. Offensively he rushed for at least 150 yards. Overall I was most surprised by the JC secondary. They played man coverage most of the night and I thought this would be a big weakness for them this year.
