Central is good again this year as well as PT and a couple others from the Central/Western part of the state.

I would say Belfry will be back in the fight for 3A.

Who WILL win it? I don't know, I'm not a woman so I can't read minds, nor tell the future.
I'd LIKE to see Belfry win it, of course

To early in the year to predict but I will guess ---Russell

should be the most competetive in the state. Russel, Belfry, Breathitt

I would say Louisville Central will come from their side, PT has a new coach so I really don't know what to expect. Russell and Belfry and BC have a shot to make it to Papa Johns

Russell and Belfry play each other before the Semi's and I think they beat each other up and Breathitt wins and goes to Louisville, eventually losing to Central.

What about Central? They beat Belfry in a game last year that was not really that close. They have probably one of the toughest defenses in the State led by UK committ Mister Cobble and Ridge Wilson, who has received several D1 offers. They have a lot of returning talent, and they are extremely quick at every position. Belfry, Breathitt, and Russell may be the favorite from our part of the state, and I'm not saying they're not capable of winning, but last season Belfry seemed unbeatable and Central beat them physically, mentally, emotionally, and took the State Title right out of their hands. I hope an Eastern KY school wins it, but it'll be tough, especially if the Yellow Jackets advance out of the Derby City!

Central's downfall may be their lack of ability to put points on the board. They lost just about everybody from an average offense.
True they do have some D1 players, but IMHO some of the players in EKY would be going D1 if they were playing in Louisville and getting seen. No 3A D is going to hold Belfry/BC/ or Russell this year to less than 28pts. (In good conditions) Not enough depth.
Ive seen D1 commits get dominated by players from EKY. Aaron Miller comes to mind. I also watched the Russell line more than hold their own against CM who has 2 D1 commits, 1 to Purdue and 1 to WVU.

Rewatch that State Title game.... Belfry outgained Central, controlled the clock, and was driving for what would have been winning score before fumbling. More than half of Central's total yards came on two carries.

You really haven't seen Central's defense play have you?
Belfry scored 17 on Central last year, Breathitt may have been able to score 7, and Russell would have been lucky to score on Central at all last season from what I saw. These boys from Central are not projected Major D-1 players because of their size, it is because of their speed, athleticism, and raw talent.
I completely agree that Central's apparent weakness is their offense (which by the way has looked phenominal in the offseason from all accounts)

Central is a very good defensive team. I don't think they will be as good as last year. JMO. Russell is much better on the offensive side of the ball. The entire backfield runs sub 4.6. The blocking so far this year has been much improved.

Why don't you feel Central will be better on defense? They return 5 legit D-1 prospects, they only lost 4 defensive starters from last season and the only one that seemingly will be hard to replace is their DT Wadlington...all accounts are that Central may have one of the top 3 or 4 defensive teams regardless of class.
4.6 forty's doesn't mean much when the defensive line is in the backfield when the ball is hiked, and if you break through the D-line your LB's and Secondary all run 4.5's.

I see no reason why their defense wont be somewhat better than last year. I can promise you that any back that thinks a 4.6 will get them past the LB or DBs of Central is really mistaken. It will get them to the line a little quicker but it wont run by any of the LBs or DBs.

Well Central is supposed to be tough, no doubt! But lets wait a few games and let this years teams earn there respect, before we go praising them based on last years accomplishments!! Any given night most any team can lose!! If no other team can win 3A but central, why should they bother! It just does not always work the way most ppl think. BUT here is looking forward to another fun year of HS Football! (ENJOY)!

LOL J/K...I say its the same ole' same ole'..who wants it the most at the end of the year between Belfry, Breathitt and Russell. I look for the Devils to put up some impressive numbers this year. Belfry will cram it up your nose as always. Breathitt will suprise you each down..throw or pass??? I say heart and soul wins it by the DEVILS this year!!!

Central's top linebacker runs about a 4.85.
If Russell's backs get to the seondary they won't need to run around them. Abrams is even bigger than Central's linebackers.
I feel the same about Belfry, they may not have the speed Russell has, but they are much bigger.
Central very well may dominate, who knows. I just don't see it this year due to the fact that they won't be able to put the points on the board.

That being said, Breathitt was really overmatched and I do not think it would have changed the outcome of last years game even if they were 100%.

Breathitt is definetly my "dark horse" if you can call them that.
It appears that they have the tools there, but noone knows for sure how this team will do. The JC game should tell us quite a bit about them. Although I'm not sure Breathitt will have the depth on the line at this time of the year to hold back JC's monsters, so it may look worse in week 1 than if they played at the end of the year.

Ridge Wilson- 4.6 (Rivals.com),
Tim Patterson- 40 Not listed, but he is expected to be the top prospect in the entire state of Kentucky next year. He was Central's leading tackler as a Sophomore.

FWIW, I completely agree that Belfry, Breathitt, and Russell have as good of shot as anyone to knock off Central. They are far from immortal.
But, it is important to not short change how good Central really is. Based on last season and what Central returns it would be unwarranted to assume any offense will be able to score on them effectively in 3A at this time, but that will not be certain until they play the games.
