How will this one turnout?

As excited as we all are to see Coach Larkey unveil the new Harlan County Blackbears, it still just a scrimmage game and I doubt he nor Coach Mills will show much with Letcher and Clay coming up for real next week.

They keep telling me to not get too excited over this scrimmage, but I can't help it. My guess is that those boys are biting at the bit to hit somebody other than their team mates!! I'll say the Black Bears will win this one. I can't believe that football season is really here!!!

I just hope HC fans can see that Larkey and the boys will not be playing @ top force. The same goes for Mills and Knox. I look for both teams to run the first string groups 2 or 3 series and running maybe 3 or 4 different plays. You do not want your first game team to get all of your sets.

You're misunderstanding. You'll see full tilt, hard nosed football. It's just that you will see limited sets, limited plays, and you should see a lot of second team and JV players. Enjoy your team, just don't get caught up in winning or losing or even looking good or bad. The coaches, if they're smart, are looking ahead one week.

I agree each team should set there players that will get alot of the playing time this year for most of this game.. KC has a big one opening up with clay. Dont really know anything about HC.

Word going around is that this is going to be a three way scrimmage with Williamsburg also participating.

I think Harlan Co. is going to show all there power because they need to see it for themselves. Outcome Harlan Co. dominant in these scrimmage games.

does anyone have any updates on the way this scrimmage ended?

14-7 Harlan Co.

Harlan Co. was solid against Knox Central in this game. The Bears look to have a boat load of weapons on "O." I look for the game with Letcher to be a mountain classic.

That QB for Harlan Co. was the real deal.

Harlan County dressed more than 90 players. Very impressive team watching them walk in to the stadium and warm up. This will be a group to be reckoned with.
I though KC looked solid also. Both played it pretty close to the vest. Williamsburg looked really good offensively albeit against Harlan's JV, not so good against KC's varsity.

Just made me anxious to see next week's game!
I would just about bet that this very second, the Black Bear coaching staff if preparing. That was fun to see all 90 of those kids make their way onto the field and I think most got a chance to get in. It was something to see.

What type of formations did Harlan County run & pass out of?

Number 78 is a hawg beast. Watch for him to make some holes. Nice size for a first year team. Are those just the practice uniforms.

What does he play? Center, Guard, or Tackle?

That's a fine looking high school and campus.

Knox Central had really really nice facilities. Their baseball field is awesome also! The kids were lined up with the seniors in the front going back to the Freshmen. I think that #78 is a Soph.

Those are great pics Mama Bear! The Bears certainly did look awesome marching into that football stadium - what a great-looking bunch of young men. Now that we have that scrimmage out of the way (which it was AWESOME to see the Bears together for the first time on the field), let's get ready for LCC. Can we stand it for 5 more days Bear fans??? Let's hope.

You can dress 900--we dressed 90 out 1st year also-but you can only play 11 at a time--experience will make the difference Friday night.

Good luck this friday....getting so excieted about the game. Can't wait.

I'm a Knox Central fan. We beat you that year with your 90. The difference is Harlan has experienced players used to playing at a high level for Cumberland, Evarts, and Cawood. It's just a matter of teaching them Larkey's system and bringing them together.
By the way I predicted after that first game with Letcher when others were down on the Cougars that they would rise to the top in a very short time. Good coach, lots of players, great facilities. Everything a team needs.
08-25-2008, 03:04 PM
Both teams will be teams to watch in the Mountains this year.

Outstanding pics Mama Bear. I just love the excitment that's surrounding the Harlan program this year.
