The score of the game gives a poor representation of how the game truely went. Ashland's passing game looked solid the entire game. The running game still struggling heavily behind a young offensive line. Ashland played well below their potentional for the entire first half of the game. The Ashland offense sputtered up and the down the field earning a 17-0 lead right before half. With one second remaining in the half, Raceland called a time. On the ensuing play the quarterback was sacked, fumbled the ball, and it was returned for touchdown for Ashland taking the half-time score to 24-0. Ashland played much better the second half and opened up a 31-0 margin before a long pass play from Raceland led their first score of the night making the score 31-7. The Ashland starters added one more touchdown to make the score 38-7. Shortly after, Ashland's reserves and freshmen entered the game. The second team scored one touchdown, but the PAT failed due to a bad hold creating the final score of 44-7. Raceland's offense struggled much of the night but did have a few big plays against the Ashland defense which stayed stellar most of the night. Raceland's defense was very impressive all night long making big stop after big stop.
Congrats to both teams and I wish both a very good season. It looks bright for both teams.
Ashland will not be playing next week but will return to action Friday, Sept. 2 @ Russell

How was ashlands ko game tonite???????????
08-20-2005, 12:28 AM
The kicking game as a whole was great. 5/5 on PAT. One missed PAT due to a bad hold. Successful field goal of a 25 yards. No touchbacks on kickoffs but all kickoffs were received between the 5-10 yardlines.

The Kickoff game was a bit rusty, but you also have to look at who the returner for Raceland was. Thomas Tolliver is FFFAAAASSSSSTTTT!!! Most of the time he'd be at the 25 or 30 before the Ashland players got there, and the kicks were to the 5 most of the time. It'll improve from game to game though.

Sounds like a nice kicking game to me.

yesum and good job t-cats.

Congrats Ashland!!!

Offense looked great for early on in th season. They didn't punt once and combined for around 250 total yards on the ground. I wouldn't call that struggling with the running game. Ashlands's offense did sputter two times inside the redzone one of the times coming away with a fg however.

And that was after they had turned it over on downs, but first play Ashland's defense caused a fumble and got the ball back.

and may I add with halftime approaching the scoop and score scene came in.

Definitely can't forget that.

Like they say and i believe it and been believing it anything can happen in a game of football.

After this game we have a good idea of what we need to work on. We have a week off after this game, so that gives us more time to correct the mistakes we made. But all in all, I thought we played well. Ian Holbrook had a great game. Our offensive line, even though we do need to gel, did a good job of blocking even though Raceland came out with a differnent defensive front then they normally do. Tyler Reliford ran the ball well, and our defense again was quick at getting to the ball.
We will need to step it up these next few weeks, because it doesn't get any easier. We play Russell, Portsmouth West, Prestonsburg, and Ironton, and it won't be easy beating any of these teams.
I'd also like to congratulate Raceland. Even though they lost, I thought they played very well on both sides of the ball, and I think that they're going to have a great season this year. Good luck to the Rams!

I was very impressed with the play of the Rams. Coming into Putnam, I was expecting another blowout, but I thought Raceland in their own way held their own and their coach should be proud of his team.

good luck to the rams as they go on against rowan.
