About the Sheriff
#1
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH
JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE
MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF
AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their
weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and
city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for
discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court
order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV
again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how
hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the
Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees
just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000
inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the
Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their
government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on
their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees
inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their
chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who
has lived in the tents for 1+ years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long
ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna
sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told
all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are
living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they
didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there
would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be
punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for
their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get
back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't
afford to have for themselves.

I like the part about the soldiers the best!!

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

Well
this man could never and would never be elected in floyd co
There are more dishonest voters than honest one.
My hat is off to this modern day Wyatt Earp
#4
This fella is on to something good. I saw some of the pictures from Iraq today of our troops trying to sleep and rest in mud foxholes and blowing sand. Not a very pleasant sight and to think of that scumbag down in Florida that raped the little girl and then murdered her makes me ill thinking of how well he is treated and fed. They should have taken the feeding tube from him and give it back to T.S. while she wasa still alive.
#5
Hahah.. i think I like this guy.. But i'd hate to run into him lol
#6
This is terribly inhumane and against human rights. You all say you're pro-life, so show it!
#7
NO.. this isn't inhumane.. this is punishment for criminals..Why should they get everything they want at the expense of taxpayers..
#8
They don't get everything they want. They have to work no matter what prison they're in. And to top it off they have to live in a sketchy environment away from everyone they know and love. What this guy is doing is called cruel and unusual punishment. Prison is no free ride. You dont get to go sit around and watch TV all day. You have to work for minimum wage and follow strict rules. It is a place where your freedom is supposed to be restricted not violated.
#9
Gf
have you ever worked in a jail or for that matter a prison or served on a board at one?
Inhumane is taking the life of someone for no reason. Humans are cruel if not he worst species on earth.
Justice should be served.
I may have had an experience in a jail or 2 and i dont remember it being all that bad, gravy and bisquits for breakfest
tv and no work detail if i recall
Expalin to me if a man burn his underware why should taxpayers pay for him to have a new pair?
LOL
#10
Exactly what Doc said. Yes you are away from friends and family. But that's basically the only big thing that is taken from you.. and you aren't in a cell 24 hours a day.. inmates can do the work detail, or they can choose to stay inside most of the time.. The worst thing about being in prison and jail is the reputation you get for being in there. other than that, it's not much different than being on house arrest.
#11
i think more jail's should be like that one....

more sherrifs should be like that one...
#12
Doc Holliday Wrote:Expalin to me if a man burn his underware why should taxpayers pay for him to have a new pair?
LOL

Because if you want this country to have a prison system set up, you have to pay taxes for it. I have my reasons for my stance on this issue, but don't feel like discussing it in public forum.
#13
I think what he was trying to say is, that our tax dollars shouldn't go mostly to a prison system.. they should go to more important things. Yes some money should go to them.. But i don't think prisoners should be allowed to watch whatever they want, or do whatever they want. and a lot of them do..
#14
Where is it inhumane? They get Food, Colthing, and shelter....not to mention TV. I know where you are comming from GF but prisioners are supposed to lose rights...but all of these still have their basic needs.

Like it said, soldiers have it worse than this and noone is complaining over there!
#15
I like this sherrif also. To me, prison is just a place to go so you can get away from everyone. You still have what you had at home (tv, hot meals, lounging around, etc.) I think if someone has committed a crime, and deserves to be in prison, jail, or whatever, then they should pay the price. If prison is nothing but like sitting at home then how will the crimes stop?
#16
prison is a lot more than settin at home... at home i dont thinku stabd the chance of two or threee guys beatin u up and then raping you....
i just think law enforcement should be as tough as this guy.
#17
Apparently you haven't been watching the news. Your home is more likely to see someone beat you up and rape you. Thing is, they kill you afterwards opposed to prison where they just leave you hurting from the rear. Home is just as dangerous nowadays.
#18
I believe in punishing inmates but that guy has taken it a tad far.
#19
What are te specifics where he has gone too far?
#20

The no T.V. but the Disney channel.
No lifting wieights.
And living in tents when it reaches 120 degrees
#21
I think this sheriff is doing exactly what he should do. If you commit a crime, then your rights should be taken away. You should have no luxuries whatsoever. If you are in a county jail for something minor or something that was a mistake then I dont think you should be treated that extreme. However, if you murdered or raped someone, then I think you should get worse punishment than what these people are getting. To me, you dont even deserve to live.

How can anyone say that a murderer deserves anything other than to be killed and tortured themselves?

Our tax dollars need to go to other causes besides making sure prisoners have better meals, air conditioning, nice clothing, cable, and whatever else they get. They dont need it nor deserve it. Their most basic needs should be met and that is it...and I'm still not even sure about that depending on what they did to get into prison. If your crime had anything to do with a baby or child, then you should be tortured for the rest of your life. Maybe Im a little extreme on this issue but thats how I feel and I dont care. I'm not sure if its cheaper to sentence someone to death or not...maybe they should just kill the person and give the money to someone who needs it.

People need to think before acting. If you dont want to be tortured and have everything taken away from you then dont commit a crime and you wont be put in prison.
#22
I really dont knwo what to think on this one...but the sheriff sure does seem to be doing something right, now doesnt he Big Grin
#23
Couldnt' have said it better BGG..
#24
But don't you all sense an irony there? They have done horrible things, so we are going to do horrible things to them. We are suppose to be better than the criminals and by torturing them we aren't showing it. The same as being 5 years old again and saying, "You hit me so I'll hit you back" Rise above that.
#25
Yeah wait until something happens to someone you love, you'll be rising above then wont you? No, I dont think so. You will be ready to kill... I think that instinct is inside everyone when someone they love gets treated this horribly...

I'm not acting like a child..this is how I feel and I dont care who it offends. I dont think its ironic at all. I think they should get the same treatment.

Why should we treat prisoners like kings? Dont you think that makes them less likely to conform to society's rules? Prison wouldnt be much different than home so it doesnt even scare them.
The type of person who murders or rapes DOES NOT deserve to live. Why waste time on them. I personally dont want to kill them but I dont care if someone did... The less evil people, the better...Why waste years of feeding and clothing a prisoner when that money could go to a hungry innocent and loving child or family? It doesnt make sense...The people who are good deserve better not the people who are bad. Who are you for?
#26
Well I think everyone should be clothed and feed. But you can't lock someone in a cage and not feed them or cloth them. That is evil. But just because someone has committed a crime doesn't mean they are lower than me and deserve to be killed. They are still human beings. And come on, lets get real, prison is no place anyone wants to go. It is no lavish suite were you get the finest meals and are treated to the best entertainment.

And no offense but saying someone who has killed someone needs to be killed is childish.
#27
I still dont think he could be elected in floyd county
#28
Doc, your funny..lol...

Yeah, I agree with everybody..how about we let the murderers run free and take over the world? Then none of us will be alive and we wont even have to worry about being childish or above them.. we will be dead.... :?
#29
Here is another point...

Everyday there are innocent people who's most basic needs are not being met. The government needs to spend their time and money on those people and NOT the prisoners. How can anyone be opposed to that? Do you not think that the innocent person deserves more than the criminal?
#30
Of course prison shouldn't be a place people want to go but when they get out do they stay out? sometimes, but more often than not, they do something to go back. Why? Because they have it made. The worst part about it is you are in lockdown during sleep time. but when you wake up, you are either out working, or running around the prison doing something else...

If it is a necessity to have tv, then i don't think they should have a choice of 200 channels... they should have abotu 2.. and that would be ket, and the disney channel. I went from kindergarten to about 7th grade without cable or anything, and it didn't kill me. and the govnt. didn't make anyone give me t.v.

They get three meals a day. and the meals might not be 5 star meals, and they might not be granny's home cooking, but it can't be worse than school food. and some of us lived on that shit for about 13 years of our lives.

They get extra curricular activities, such as sports, and junk like that. until they do something to get punished. then it gets taken away for a week or so.

Now these people, IMO, gave up their right to freedom and all the rights we are allowed the day they thought they were better than the laws, and thought they were better than everybody else, and committed the crime they did.

Now of the things I've listed, what about it is so bad? The worse thing is you can't have sex with a female if you are male, and when you sleep you are behind bars, and are actually safer than if you were at your own house.

To be put in prison, one must have done something bad, or else they would keep you in a county jail. So IMO, once you go to prison, you shouldn't have any kind of right at all..

if you change after you get out then great.. but if not then you can go straight to hell for all i care....
