How is JBS and Elliot so high. That is just wrong. and Valley should be on there.
01-21-2008, 01:39 PM
Yes they should..!
01-21-2008, 01:59 PM
were the heck is valley??? Theyre better than paintsville

Wow. That's all anybody can say about these ratings.
Shelby Valley has knocked off #8 Male and #12 Desales. They have a 5 point loss to #7 Jeffersontown and one of the top teams in the country in the New York Tournament.
They're not winning by a large margin, but they're winning and that should be all that matters.
Elliot County may be the most overrated team the state has seen in many years.
Meanwhile, JBS squeaks by Letcher Central in overtime and hangs around at #8. I can't figure it out.

JBS is about right in this ranking. Valley just are not beating people real bad. To many close wins and thats why they keep dropping.

So the Patriots shouldn't have been the #1 seed in the playoffs because they didn't beat everyone by 2 TD's, right?
These rankings are a joke.
A win is a win, they aren't judged by how much you win by, a one point win over Male was a win over a top team in the state. Nobody should judge how much we beat them by, because honestly, how many people can say they beat Male?

They beat Male early in the season. Since then they have dropped of a little. And yes they do rank by how bad you beat people.

Valley is not better than Paintsville. I agree they should be there, but disagree that they're better. His rankings are not very accurate at all.

And that is stupid. One night they will do that and there star players are going to go down with an injury and be done for the rest of the season.

JBS played a big part of the game with their JV team in who never play any varsity minutes. Cox didnt play. Collins went out 3 minutes into the game with a poked eye. Short got in foul trouble a few minutes into the game. Clark Stepp fouled out with 4 minutes left in the 14th and JBS still won by 9....

With all that being said I still dont know why Shelby Valley is not in the rankings but JBS doesnt have to be brought into it...

Yeah, but they have the best quality wins of the mountain teams. Elliot County hasn't beaten anyone to brag about.

First, Valley is not necessarily better than Paintsville. Second, why pick on the teams that are in just because Valley isn't listed this week. Third, Valley should be in the rankings as one of the top 4 EKY teams. Fourth, the Cantrell rankings are notoriously inaccurate anyway. Fifth, who cares what the Cantrell rankings say anyway? I wouldn't even care if Paintsville was even ranked. The team has to prove it on the floor anyway. Rankings mean nothing.
01-21-2008, 07:51 PM
honestly all the rankings are a joke the media and cantrall ranking just need to be done away with. Such as the guy for the Courier Journal he has not seen most of the teams play in the state. Now tell me how can you be called the Kentucky High School sports reporter if you do not even watch most of the teams play?
01-23-2008, 05:38 PM
I don't know how old many of you are, but can anyone else remember the "Big Dipper Radio Show"? He used to talk about the Bermuda Triangle of those ratings, Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati (just this side of the river) and those were the only teams that these guys Cantrell with the LHL and ???? with the LCJ ever read about or saw anything about on the sports broadcasts from the local TV stations.
01-23-2008, 05:44 PM
I would say Elliott's recent loss to Rose Hill will drop them down the list a few spots.
01-23-2008, 08:49 PM
Cantrall is an ever bigger joke than the Courier Journal, where the **** is Valley.

I guess

The ratings are factored on a yearly relative score basis with some politics thrown in. Most years, it would be fair to say that urban area schools should dominate the top 25 based simply on the size of the school alone. The one thing that makes bball great is that good team ball in a five player game can neutralize the greater number of athletes factor. I saw both JBHS and Valley play in the WYMT last year; I haven't seen Elliott. JB seemed a little more fundamentally sound than Valley, but Valley had a little more quickness with better shooting. Collins and Stepp would seem to give JB the edge. However, I seriously doubt that JB could defeat any of the top 15 teams in the state.

They have also been beat convincingly by a few teams also. BUT that will only help them in the long run.

I think that we have some of the best basketball teams anywhere in the state.

The Big Dipper loved the eastern Ky teams and was their biggest supporter. The mountain teams lost their loudest voice when he passed away.
