Rule I heard at the Shelby Valley & Pikeville game
#1
At the game, like always, the Blue Crew had their first row of students standing on the floor, outside of the blue trim. Now they have done this for a LONG time, probably since they moved their location from upstairs to the lower bleachers. At the game they were told to stand on the bleachers or they would be removed from the game. Has this been a rule for a long time or was this just thrown into the game the other night?
#2
the refs gave that warning alot last year
#3
I think they just give a warning to whoever is doing it and then after that I am not sure what happens. Apparently they will get thrown out.

I don't know if it is a rule across the state or not but Paintsville was forced to put railing up in the front row so the students/fans wouldn't be on the floor. And anybody who remembers what it was like before they put rails up knows how crazy that was, especially in the pep section. I think it's a good idea, they should put rails up at every gym.

The same thing happened at East Ridge last season when Pikeville went there. Only the refs got the deputies to tell Pikevilles student section that was in the bleachers under the goal to get up on them and off the floor. I guess the other end under the goal East Ridge was in was farther back because they didnt have to.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I've never heard this rule.
KCC's Blue Crew has always done this,
and nothing has ever been said to us.
We even did it last year at region, and district..
#7
Fans should never be allowed on the floor. The refs did I good job of monitoring this during the ball game. During rival games such as this I am glad the refs were paying attention.
#8
As long as their not across the line, its fair game.
#9
The Refs in every game I've ever seen try to dictate what goes on in the game, and even what the fans do. This is so stupid. Why don't they just concentrate on the game, instead of interested on what everyone else is doing.
#10
Quit hating. Go somewhere else to rag on the best pep section in the 15th. The refs told us to get back, so they did do something.

Thats 15th region officiating for ya.

Can you explain this a little bit better?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

The reason for the rule is for player safety. If a player goes for a steal or something, steps on a foot and twist or breaks an ankle that wouldnt be good for any team.

It's a safety concern. Just like cheer leaders being placed out of the free throw lane extended to cheer. Where is the bulk of the play @ a basketball game, @ the basket, keeping that area clear is a safety concern.(so much so that the National Federation of high schools addressed it) If a cheer leader or player is injured in this area because a cheer leader was allowed to cheer there, the school's insurance is nulll and void and all school officials are liable.(personally as well) Check the National Federation Handbook. There's also a diagram for those, who don't like to read a rule book...LOL!!! I say install railings. Granted, Paintsville's gym look like an asylum, but it's safe on the sides. They still allow the cheer leaders to cheer under the goals, but I guess none of the school officials will mind being named in a lawsuit, should it occur. ( I surely hope Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe don't get ahold of them!)

The head ref has the supreme authority during a game. If he or she askes for something to be removed or moved it is the duty of the game manager to make it happen.

Yes. Anyone who has played against Paintsville @ PHS should know. We would be warming up, and we would actually get touched by fans in the student sections. They were atrocious. That was a major part of the reason of the huge brawl that occurred
after the Belfry/Paintsville game in 2003.

The fans werent consistently on the blue line. Of course the refs are a little lenient if they stand on the blue line every now and then, and its not a crowd of ppl doing it.

The rule was enforced as two young girls, probably 4 and 8, were sitting on the edge of the bleachers and on the floor, and would sometimes get close, or on the blue line. The refs asked the announcer to tell people to not stand or sit on the floor. There were only 2 fans on the floor at the time, and the refs werent concerned with them. The refs had to finally go ask the the parents to put the kids in their lap, as they refused to move from the front row. They were more concerned with the two girls' safety and interference than the fans.

I was in the Blue Crew last year, and for the record, fans can stand on the floor as long as they arent on the paint. I know this because we were constantly asked to move, and we finally asked the refs haha.

Where was the best pep section in the 15th tonight? Valley only had like 10 kids in the student section.

That's better than some schools can say for road games.

I've been to many games at Paintsville before the rails were placed up and I don't ever recall seeing fans place hands on any of the players because that would be assault or something to that degree. However, I do remember balls going into the crowd and the students shooting them, having their lay-ups in warm-up drills being blocked, and definately remember the big brawl....those who were involved in the incidents were subject to strict punishment and dismissal from the games usually. Keeping fans off the court is definately a safety issue, no more or no less.

The touching I was referring to was Paintsville fans snaking one of our players when we warming up. That was one wild night. It got bad.

There was a time when everyone concentrated on watching the game instead of becoming a part of the show. Fans didn't have to worry about having their view blocked because most people were polite about it. ESPN taught marginal fans that they too could be seen. A generation later, fans looking to be "seen" go to the games, and a large percentage of fans who understand the game stay home rather than get irritated.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks. Your chant at the SV/Pikeville game at SV was way out of line.

Which game are you referring to? I went to Paintsville and was in the front row of every game for several years when I was in school there.....don't ever remember that happening.

I was a senior that year. I know the boys always shot the balls when they came into the pep section and the Arms' twins would block shots and do chin ups on the black railing behind the goal. The brawl started after the game because durin the game a loose ball went into Paintsville's pep section and one of the Belfry players went after it. Paintsville boys started yellin in his ear and callin him names and that boy bag tagged one of em. After the game was over the boy who got hit in the jewels went out on the court and punched him in the mouth. And it only got worse after that... But that night is why they put the railin up. It was up before the next home game and a "Runyon's Rowdies" sign displayed on the front.
