What EKY teams pose a threat for the All "A" state title and why?
#1
IMO SV, JBS, and Paintsville could do some damage down there...I think they could very well make the Final Four or win it all...But, for some reason, I think JBS or SV has the best chance, because you really need some size down state...

What about Elliott Co.?

I think all EKY teams have a great chance this season to make some serious noise in the ALL A classic, not only to make it to the final four but to the championship game.

I obviously think University Heights is the early favorite to win it and most likely will follow through with that though.

I would love to see a mountain team win the All "A" and the Sweet Sixteen.

Yeah, your prolly right...Crazier things have happened though...

We could see a JBS vs Elliot in semi-finals. That would be a crazy game to watch. But I do think JBS,Valley, and Elliot all stand a good chance at making it to the final game and possible winning. I also believe a state championship is possible for either of these teams.
#8
JBS, Shelby Valley, and Paintsville could go and have great showings.
#9
I see Elliot co. winning the All A state championship and making a considerable push into the Sweet 16.
#10
I think the 4 teams mentioned above all have a very legit shot and making the Final Four at All 'A' State. I think a lot just depends on whether a team is clicking or not because all of these teams have proven that they can play with the top teams in the state.
#11
I can see JBS or Elliot Co. making a serious run for the All A title this year. SV and Paintsville are both good ballclubs, but I would give the notch to JBS & Elliot. Just my opinion

Valley, Paintsville, JBS and Elliott all have a great shot. And don't count out Hazard. I gotta feelin JBS may find themselves in another dog fight with the Bulldogs.

I think that we will see SV, Paintsville, JBS and/or Elliott Co. in the finals. The question is whether one of them can win it!! They should be able to, but seems like we (the EKY teams) always get knocked out by someone from central or northern KY. I guess we will have to see how it goes. This is one of the most competitive group of teams that we will have had in it in a while though.

They may be the favorite but I think JBS and SV are very capable of beating them. I've seen them play and wasn't really impressed with them.

Here's the state boys' bracket, as found on http://www.allaclassic.org.

13th/5th

6th/15th

9th/2nd

10th/11th

12th/1st

7th/16th

4th/8th

14th/3rd

By these brackets, we could have 3 EKY teams in the final four. Potentially Shelby Valley/Paintsville vs. University Heights in one semi, and Elliott vs. JBS/Hazard in the other. Would be great to see!

JBS,SV,Paintsville and Elliott could do well..
JBS--Very deep team with three good guards and biggest size in ALL A possibly...
SV --Very talented and plays extremely well as a team....
PH --Good ball club, maybe best player in Landon SLone, bench could be problem
Elliott--3 good guards,plays hard,can play with anyone,

The problem with that is, JBS has got to get there first. Hazard will be representing the 14th. I'll bet another farm on it!Smile

Hazard--Possible best team in the 14th. Best coach. Very talented point guard and good size. Plays hard and excellent defensive team.

Hazard is not the best team in the 14th...They might not be in the top 3 or 4....Any of 6 or 7 teams can easily beat Hazard...Just about every decent team that Hazard has played has had an easy chance of beating them...Whitaker is a good point guard but I promise you he is no Justin Hicks who was by far the best player in the region last year and is doing awesome at Pikeville. Cox is going to be out a few games with his knee but will be back for the ALL A. I agree that they do have a good coach but some are wondering about all the new players since he has been there. Three in the first year is a little much dont you think. I hear that some players have already quit this week and turmoil is not something a team needs going into this part of the season. JBS returns all 5 starters from last years region champs...Maybe next year for you...IMO

I like this thread. From the 14th, people are saying JBS and Hazard. From the 15th, Shelby Valley and Paintsville. My only question is, if a different team than those 4 was to win the All A regional, does that mean that they wouldnt have a chance at the state level? If a team can beat any of those 4 from the two different regions, then why cant that team go anywhere?

Every team should have big goals. Sometimes a team can upset a given team on a given night but can they win the 3 or so games it takes to win a regional title. I really cant see anyone but SV or Paintsville winning this year in the 15th. Next year will be a different story for Pikeville though. I think next year could be the year that they can compete with SV and I think they will move into the position that Painstville has this year.

Do winner's AND runner's up go to the All A in Richmond?
Someone had confused me with SV and PVill both going.
I am not dumb enough to pick the winner to that game but I hope whoever wins it wins the whole **** tourny. Eastern KY has grown according to WYMT's coverage area. I watch the "Mountain" top 10 on Fridays and try and figure out for the next 30 minutes where some of the mountains are located around a couple of teams.

The answer to your first question - no. Only the winner. I believe people were mentioning both teams since they are the co-favorites to win the region and represent the 15th in Richmond. Pikeville should probably be mentioned as a 15th contender as well.

Trust me, I know all about teams setting goals. But if one of the early favorites cant put together 3 games in a row to win the regionals, what makes you so sure they can to win it at the state level? Consistency is better to have in tourneys than good games. I just hope and wonder if the team that does win it, if the other 15th region teams and fans will be behind them or against them because their team didnt go.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

JBS, Shelby Valley, Hazard, Paintsville, Cumberland and Pineville. I think any of these 6 teams are capable of beating any Class A school on a given night or day.
#28
Does anyone have the brackets of the All A state tournament? The breakdown of which region plays which. IMO if some of these teams get a good draw they could make it to the finals or at least the semi's.

Was the close game the other night a fluke or did Elliott have anyone out?
