It’s hard to rank teams in this area 3-10.
Whitley returns Parker and will probably run him 90% of the time.
North returns all their playmakers and so much on defense.
Knox was not very good last year but returns essentially everyone. I’d probably reorder 3-5. Clay county is about to fall out the bottom.

Harlan County is all hype, and has to have one of the worst non district schedules in 4A, they even forced the move of the Bell game away from halloween (where it’s been since 09).

South showed improvement, and even beat up on North and Knox. Year 2 under one of the better coaches in this state will shock some people. Mason Griffen might go for 4000 with their schedule.

Deakon Partin will be a really improved quarterback, and for 1A standards really good. Middlesboro can very quickly be looking at 8-1 or 9-0 going into the slaughter (sayre).

they seem confident they whooped up on the colonels. I had not heard anything. Guess we need someone to explain if Oneida is going to be better than they have been in the past or if whitley is in trouble.

Do you all put much stock in preseason games? I know a lot of the time teams that go winless in the NFL preseason have great reg. season and teams that play lights out in preseason might win three or four reg season games. I guess what I'm saying is that scrimmages don't mean shit.

I don't really know much about Corbin.  But they lost some great players. Bell returned a ton of players.  Not sure who would win, but I think it would be very competitive.

In the last decade only 2 Bell county teams would’ve beat Corbin that year, 2019 and 2025. That’s solely based on the drop down of Corbin those two seasons, the other 8 years it’s not close. 

For your other comment, the score of a preseason game doesn’t matter, especially in a 10 play offense/defense format. What matters is the strengths you see and weaknesses that alarm you. Bell had a lot more strengths than weaknesses in their scrimmage, and most to all the weaknesses were easily fixed and very small. Corbin on the other hand not so much. 

Preseason matters outside of the scope of wins and losses, it’s a litmus test on individuals and the team especially when there’s new starters like what the hounds are gonna have. Notable instances are hazard not being able to do anything productive 2 years ago in the scrimmage against bell, they won 1 game all year. Last year Pulaski showed up against bell and really stood toe to toe, look how they impressive they did all year under a first year coach. 

But yes, does a preseason game count on a record or have any impact in 5 days, no.

Corbin played a 6A team and Bell played a 1A team.

I haven't seen the what happened with Corbin at Madison Central. I do know when you have Estep and Pietrowski, Aikens, Persons, Stevens, and the film I watched of Salmons. Corbin should be able to score and handily. What I personally want to see is the play call scheme in situations. No way to put that into a situation in a 10 play format. Its August and about game time, what you is is what you is.

 I'll tell you whats going on at Clay County, they are winning games and playing a good local 13th region schedule in which I like and they are competitive against Rockcastle and beat Knox Central last season. Clay had a chance to have their best team in 15 years this season but lost 2 of their top 3 overall players due to injury and transfer. They took a big time hit there. Should still be competitive but I honestly felt 2 seed potential before that.

Corbin played a 6A team and Bell played a 1A team.

Bell left Hazard with film to get better and find issues that need fixing. Corbin left Richmond knowing they would win in the ring. Bell did not have to go to practice on monday and punish/discipline players for fighting, they got to prepare for JC. Corbin on the other hand did not get to do that. I think the key point of this was expressed in the Corbin thread, where it was said they won the fight TWICE. Yes in a scrimmage it can get out of hand pretty quickly, but letting it get out of hand twice is a lack of discipline. Lack of discipline and loss of talent usually does not translate into a number 1 team.

I'm hoping for a beatdown but I wouldn't be surprised to see a close game. C'ville is good with a great QB and is a tough place to play. Bell can't go in there overconfident.

I would rather play a team that has a great QB and has great skill positions than the alternative now for 3A. Belfry leaving means there is no crazy run heavy team Bell would have to face come november outside of Hart. I want the defense to be exposed to as many good QBs as possible to get them ready for what they are gonna see when they are faced with a Louisville team. I am much happier seeing Campbellsville rather than Whitley and Harlan County, 1A or not they are better. If Bell goes in over confident they will be in for an awakening. Anyone who returns a 2k yd passer who is also the leading rusher and most of the rest of their production everywhere else is someone to prepare for.
