Richard Pitino to Xavier
#1
Per ESPN, Richard Pitino will be leaving Albuquerque for Cincinnati and is set to join his father in the Big East.

New Mexico has some history, but I'd think that Xavier is a better job overall just because of your ability to recruit in the region and have national exposure. Should be interesting having him on Kentucky's doorstep, especially if he's giving looks to in-state kids that might not have gotten them otherwise or didn't check all of the boxes for Kentucky or Louisville. Don't think it really effects either program as much as it does NKU, EKU, and WKU as the recruitment of a Marques Warrick, Taveion Hollingsworth, etc., probably plays out differently if he chooses to get involved.

Xavier might have upgraded from Sean Miller if you are looking at the long term. Pitino probably has no plans of being there forever, but for him to be able to use the job as a spring board, they're probably going to have to have more success in the NCAA Tournament than they've had in Miller's second go-round.

X will not be competitive with NKU and EKU type players.

Generally agree but don't see him taking anyone from UK and think he'd struggle with Louisville if it's a recruit that isn't from NKY and either of those schools really wanted them.

Don't think Pitino is really looking to recruit Kentucky very much regardless.

This makes a lot of sense for both parties. There was some buzz that West Virginia was interested in Richard Pitino, but I think that would have been a mistake. This makes a lot more sense Big East program, Catholic school, and name carries a lot of weight in recruiting the whole eastern side of the US. It will be really cool to see him and Rick battle it out in the Big East over the next couple of seasons.

I just don't see Little P moving the needle much at X.  X has never had any big time recruits, and it will be the wrong Pitino trying to bring them in now.

I think this will be a great hire for both parties involved. Xavier could've gone the "safe" route if that's what you want to call it by bringing back Chris Mack to replace Miller for the 2nd time but went outside the box by bringing in Pitino. Adds to the layer of having to go against Dad in conference play now. Sure hope it works out for him there.
