Dan Hurley Florida Post Game
#1
Won't repeat what was said in the tunnel here but I'm guessing most of us have heard it by now.

Terrible look for Hurley and UConn, especially given his meltdowns on officials in Maui earlier this season.

Even worse, reports are coming out that someone on the admin side allegedly tried to strong-arm the reporter into deleting or retracting their post. Admin's response about how the last image should have been Hurley walking off the floor with his seniors is tone-deaf, as it's Hurley's own fault that this didn't happen.

Officials have to be taking note and even if you are getting screwed, you drown yourself out with constant complaints. If nothing else, he's showing that his style wouldn't have worked in the NBA.

I'm starting to wonder how this ends for Hurley. Given his background and that he's 52 years old, it'd be a lot to expect a complete change from him. I don't know that a Woody Hayes or Bobby Knight type incident (at least from the perspective of that future point in time) is entirely out of the question.

UConn is really the only blue blood (if you even consider them that) who can't fall back on being in a football conference and having revenue sharing advantages. It'd take a LOT for them to ever move on from him, and even if they did, another school would still take him. I just wonder how many future games he's already cost himself and what type of damage he's doing to his legacy.

I've watched that film several times, because I wanted to make sure that what he was accused of saying; he actually said. And he did!!!
I don't know what repercussions he should face but it was a classless thing to do. I'm so thankful UK didn't get him as Coach.

If this is going to be Hurley, I'm fine with Pope over him even if it means losing more games.

If I'm a member of Baylor's staff, I'm not happy with Hurley and probably would have had to bite my tongue instead of telling him to coach his own f'n team. No reason for him to plant a seed that they were going to get screwed. It's even worse optics to do it when they are about to play Duke, who is known to get some calls and is also his brother's Alma mater. Know that Hurley probably wasn't thinking of that at the time, but still.

I get that coaches mellow put with age, but Hurley has such a long way to go that I don't see his career ending without some type of epic meltdown that almost comes to define him.

This guy has always marched to a different drummer!

I was glad to see his team lose, and I'm one who doesn't make a habit of rooting for Florida.

I have no idea what he said.

UConn's Communications DIrector has issued an apology to the journalist involved. Seems no one is confirming or denying whether he actually told him that he "would ruin his life".

It seems like to me the Connecticut programs have been headed up by a bunch of power tools, forever. Don't get me wrong, they are amazingly successful coaches but also amazing asswipes as human beings. Remember Jim Calhoun? Never liked the asshole. Great coach , but seemed like a grumpy old prick of a guy. How about Geno Auriemma? Another Hall of Famer but also a Hall of Fame d***head. And now [this arrogant F-word extraordinaire by the name of Hurley. Great coaches, all three. But Hall of Fame pricks, it seems to me.

Genuinely curious, why don't you like Geno? I can see Calhoun, who might be described as "grumpy" on one of his best days. I thought he and Geno actually butted heads quite a bit.

He just always struck me as a very arrogant jerk. Apparently struck a lot of people that way.  My sister and I (and Granny Bear ,too, I believe) admired and loved Pat Summitt. Pat wrote about Geno in her book. She said he was a jerk, and that was one of the kindest adjectives she used.  Geno is a great coach. One of the best ever.  Maybe THE best ever.  But he's no Mark Pope , when it comes to nice guys in coaching.

B!t**ing about officials before the cameras is frowned upon, plus, I guess it makes you look like a whiny pants and a potty mouth. Plus, if your SID threatens to ruin your life for reporting on it, it makes your whole program look like a bunch of  vengeful whiny turds, which they are. I'm glad they lost. Hope they lose every game they ever play for eternity.

I could not bear Jim Calhoun!

Pat Head Summit was a class act! As infamous as she was, she would get down with the girls she was coaching. Even in her summer camps for high schoolers, she was in gym shorts and tennis shoes, and on the court. She would do more than just tell the kids what to do, she would show them. And very effectively, too. I have all the respect in the world for that woman, and hated so badly her fight with Alzheimer's.

Give us the tea on her rivalry with Geno. It makes sense but I don't know a lot about it. I see that they weren't always very complimentary of one another.

Hurley has seemed to always have this type of mentality, then winning back-to-back National Championship's will make it even worse. Handle your losses better than you handle the winning, it's that simple. Yeah, it is tough to lose, be a sore loser but take accountability, it wasn't the refs fault that UCONN blew a lead down the stretch. Not only what he said, but the SID threatening to "ruin the life" of the media member who first shared the video of what Hurley said, just a terrible look altogether.
