I know it’s hard to fathom, but I wonder if a young man and his wife, who’s originally from eastern Kentucky and played for South Laurel and a phenomenal basketball player in her own right, might want to move back home to raise their children surrounded by family. This could be an amazing opportunity for a young coach who has dreamed of coaching his whole life to take his first step at a school that hasn’t seen much statewide success. It would be a blank slate—an exciting beginning for them both, with an uncertain but hopeful future ahead.
So, let’s stop the negativity. Many of you discussing this situation chose to raise your families here, so why can’t you understand why he would want the same for his children? If I had a son interested in basketball and it was feasible to make Jackson County High School our home, I would seriously consider that option for his future. It’s proving to be a great place to land, with an obvious administration who’s putting kids at the forefront.
Let’s be honest: neighboring counties have shown that the best interests of student athletes aren’t always a priority in hiring decisions. It’s often about control, stroking egos, and clinging to past glories from seasons that occurred decades ago, that no normal human even remembers, much less cares about.
