LC led by double digits nearly the entire game. Answered every run MC made. What a job by Chandler Thompson and the Bulldogs!

Lawrence County played with their hair on fire all night and Martin just couldn’t match anything they did. Every player played great for Lawrence.

Great game by LC. They dominated from beginning to end. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve pumped up this MC team from the beginning of this season until earlier today as a great team, but they flat out got outplayed and outcoached tonight. I was wrong. They looked lost on offense and defense all night. The loss to Pburg in the first round of the district did something to the bulldogs and they got very hungry.
Congrats to the Dawgs!

Great game. Lawrence was hitting shots and even though Martin scored 84 points compared to what they were scoring that was a good job defensively. You can’t stop them but you can contain them and they did that.
Congrats Lawrence. Good luck at state. We will be pulling for you back here in the 15th. Hopefully we will be able to watch the game.

Congratulations to the Pikeville Panthers on winning the 15th region championship!
All jokes aside, Congrats to LC. They hit tough shot after tough shot in this tourney

Lawrence Co won all of their tourney games with these 3 factors, in my opinion.
1. Hustle - they outworked all 3 teams
2. Rebounding - guarantee they had double the offensive rebounds of Martin County and Pike Central.
3. They just shot lights out from 3 the last two games from start to finish. It was impressive to watch.
Congrats to the Bulldogs and Coach Thompson.

For the 2nd year in a row a team who lost in the district opener wins the region. Lawrence County earned it. That lost forced them to win at Johnson Central then have to beat the 59th, 60th, and 57th district winners. Said it many of time that a Chandler Thompson coached team is hard to beat in March

Congratulations to LC.
They did not have an easy road to the championship: Having to beat JC at JC, beat Pikeville, beat PC at PC, then beat MC. They played harder than any team in the tournament, especially defensively. They also started clicking offensively. Interesting enough, they would not have even made the regional tournament in the pre super regional format.

All of the pumping up and talking about Martin County being by far the best team in the region didn’t pay off to well for people(GL1234)
Turns out they may have the best player in the region, best shooter in the state, and best freshman in the region but couldn’t get it done against a way undersized Lawrence county team.
All aside, congrats to Lawrence, they played great every game and played hard every game. Well deserved.

Congratulations to Lawrence County! Perfect send off gift to legendary Lawrence County teacher David "Chico" Prince a.k.a. Laid Back Country Picker who is retiring after the school year. Love seeing them do well!

Congrats to LC! I am eating crow tonight. Martin Co looked like they did last year in the finals.

You know it’s a good team and a great coach when you have trouble figuring out who the best player is. Any given night, it seems like any of the starting 5 could look like a star. That’s a very unselfish team Chandler Thompson has!

i said MCs weakness was defense and this is what i meant...... the foul trouble hurt but the worst play of the game for martin co was parker watts hitting a 3 out of the half...... he tried to shoot their way back in it after that when all he had to do was go to the rim and kick the same formula that always works.......... this one is going to sting on inez for a long time!!!!!!!!!!

See all Martin County fans August 15th. When these 2 teams play for the season opener

How anyone could be against the Super Region I don’t understand. It’s the farthest thing from everyone gets a trophy. By losing to Prestonsburg, it forced Lawrence to win 4 games, one which was on the road just to get to play in the actual regional tournament. People say it has turned district tournaments meaningless. No the district winners essentially get an automatic entry in the regional tournament whereas everyone else has to win their way in. JC, Shelby Valley, and Prestonsburg would have been in with the old format and LC, Floyd Central, and Paintsville out. Not all districts are equal and this helps give us the best 8 teams. Don’t want to have to play in a play in game just win your district tournament

I didn’t know Lawrence co was in the 15th thought they were in 16th

This is why every region should go to a Super Region, what a great run by the Bulldogs!

This refutes a lot of the claims that the Super Regional creates participation trophies. Lawrence went through an absolute gauntlet to win this championship. Probably the hardest path in the last 10-20 years. First beat Johnson Central at JC, then beat Pikeville in OT, then beat Pike Central at Pike Central, and now beat the favorite Martin County.
Tremendous coaching job by Thompson and the rest of the coaching staff. It shows you that in March you just have to peak at the right time. Congratulations to the Bulldogs.
Next year will be interesting for both teams. Lawrence Co returns everybody. Martin County loses a huge chunk of their production in Watts, Estep, and the heart/soul of their team in Peyton Davis. They will return Dials, Maynard, and Mills so that is a solid core, but they will need some youngsters to step up.

From things I’ve heard (all hearsay). Martin county could potentially be a bottom of the 15th team next year or if young guys work and step up be back in the mix. Only time will tell.

He looked incapable of dribbling the ball down the court. Pulling 30 footers. Committing a personal foul and picking up a technical on the same play trying to come back. Loads of talent but not a shred of discipline.
